Who should Paul Ryan appoint to the Vice Presidency?

The Flynn plea agreement suggests that Flynn spoke with multiple senior members of the Presidential Transition team about his discussions with the Russian ambassador regarding US sanctions in late December, 2016. Pence probably knew about it and therefore was part of a possibly illegal coverup. IMO, but this cite lays out the evidence.

So how does this work? Can Pence and Trump be jointly impeached? Or [hijack!]will Republican Congressmen not care about illegalities and keep Pence on? [/hijack] That’s a hijack: please label it as such if you insist on challenging the premise.

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is currently 3rd in line for the Presidency. If he rises to the top, who should he appoint as VP?

Hillary Clinton. This is the obvious choice: after all, she won the popular vote. It’s also one of the dumbest things I’ve ever typed. There’s a case to be made for choosing a unifying person: she isn’t it. Also, this sort of unity government would be phony anyway, the VP’s power derives solely from the whim of the President when they share the Oval office.

Mitt Romney. He’s getting old; he might be a decent caretaker VP. Points for irony, given that Ryan ran as his VP.

John Kasich. Probably the smartest choice. Better to have the guy inside the tent pissing out, as giving him this post would preclude a 2020 primary challenge.

Jeff Sessions. Ryan owes this Trumper nothing.

Mitch McConnell. No. Too charismatic.

Chris Christie. He has such a bright electoral future: I’m not sure whether he would take the job.

Governor LaPage of Maine: Now we’re talking. An early Trump endorser, he thought that the Donald could be one of America’s, “Greatest presidents if he sits down and puts together a good team.” Page is strong on promoting child labor and bear baiting, making him a Tea Party favorite.

For unity, Bill Clinton.
No really, Ryan would pick a woman, hopefully not Sarah Palin.
I like Kasich, I could get behind that.

If this far-fetched scenario happened, Ryan might want to avoid appointing a VP unless he didn’t intend to finish out the term. It’s not obvious that Acting President Ryan would have a superior claim to the presidency over the new VP.

This is fantasy. Trump is going to be the president until 2020, and he might very well be president until 2024. Trump and Pence aren’t going anywhere; they’re going to end the investigation. And I’ll make another prediction on top of that one: Trump will try to put Hillary Clinton in jail, and I don’t think he’s quite finished with Barack Obama, either.

I would not be surprised if Mueller has already sealed an indictment against Cheeto to be opened in the event of his firing. How many admissions of obstruction of justice does it take to go ahead with impeachment? Isn’t admission to Lester Holt on NBC enough? And if it wasn’t, wouldn’t the famous tweet (hilariously said to be written by a lawyer) from Sunday enough as well? It’s a slam dunk. Sure, it would be nice to have enough evidence to put the motherfucker in prison for the rest of his life. And though I’m opposed to the death penalty, if Mueller has something that would result in execution, even better. I’ll even volunteer to be on the firing squad.

What Ryan should do in that scenario is nominate Hillary and then resign. What I think will happen is that Pence resigns first and Donald nominates Roy Moore to replace him.

Ted Cruz might be the obvious choice, since he was guy who lasted the longest against Trump and had the 2nd most amount of votes. But my understanding is that Senators (even R ones) don’t like him at all, and might not confirm. At any rate, the politically astute thing to do would be to pick someone who had real potential to win the top spot when it opened up. That could be Marco Rubio or maybe Kasich, or again maybe Cruz.

If this stretches out for a full year, it just might not be Ryan who gets the honor, hmm?

Congress can impeach for anything they wish to, but the political reality is that today, a crime is a requirement to include in at least one article of impeachment.

So ask yourself what crime can be alleged and proven against Trump in a way that will galvanize half the House and two-thirds of the Senate to vote yes on impeachment and conviction respectively.

THEN ask yourself what crime Pence might be tagged with “simultaneously.”

If anyone is still left asking and answering after that, President Ryan’s VP choices are fair fodder.

Collusion with a foreign power. It’s been in the news.

This will take some time. The question may be who President Pelosi will nominate for VP.

Wouldn’t it be fun if the House elected Hillary as Speaker? They could.

In this highly unlikely situation, I agree he’d appoint Mitt Romney, a guy who’s been thoroughly vetted from his last campaign. Romney isn’t known for his overwhelming intellect. Ryan likes to think of himself as a policy wonk, even though he’s not. Ted Cruz is a despicable piece of shit, but he’s extremely intelligent and would be plotting against a President Ryan before his hand is off the Bible.

Mitt would be a terrible choice.

  1. He’s an established loser at the presidential level.

  2. He’s too old to be a candidate in 2024.

This is a chess came, not tick tac toe.

Romney would not be a rival to Ryan, so that makes him a very attractive choice.

Rumor is he’s running for Hatch’s Senate seat next year, so being VP for that year would interfere.

No. (No, it wouldn’t be fun. Yes, they could). Call me crazy, but I’d like a functional Congress for some period of time in the next decade or two.

It would mean Democratic control of at least the House, so that would be a big step *toward *functionality.

Harold Stassen for VP or Speaker. It’s his turn.

A dead man would certainly be an improvement.

It all depends. Trump isnt going anywhere without GOP say so. But when they start seeing him as a liability, and Pence is a good solid GOP man from way back, the GOP could oust Trump, if the evidence hurts the* party.

Actually, it might be fine. No one expects Romney to run in 2024. That would be the same as Cheney in 2008 and everyone knew he wouldn’t run. Biden didn’t in 2016, he was never seen as heir apparent, and who knows how seriously he thought about running.
