I’ve probably asked this before, but it’s been a few years.
If the Bing & Bob (& Dottie!) “Road to…” formula were revived, who would be good choices for the cast?
I figure you want a singer who can do comedy, and a comedian who can sing. And a foil of the opposite sex. If you’ve never seen them, the premise is that they are new characters in every movie, or rather, the same actors playing new characters in every movie. So there is thematic continuity (or repetition, or reference) but not story continuity.
A few years ago, I was thinking it would be fun to genderswitch it and use Christina Aguilera as the “Bing.” Not sure on the “Bob.”
You failed to mention that Bing and Bob were friends in real life, which helps to explain not just the chemistry between the two, but the longevity of the pairing.
So you need a singer who can do comedy who’s also friends with a comedian who can sing.
How about Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon?
As for a female foil, you need someone who can not only do comedy, but look good in a sarong, like Mila Kunis.
Dreamworks did an animated movie, Road to El Dorado, with the voices of Kenneth Branagh and Kevin Kline. It was a long time before I realised it was meant to literally be a “Road to…” movie. In that light think they did a great job, Kevin Kline seemed especially appropriate.
I think Shawn and Gus from Psych are the right dynamic. James Roday and Dule Hill, or Zach Braff and Donald Faison, or how about George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg?
Timberlake is amazingly talented, and hilarious to boot. He was the first person I thought of for this thread. A Fallon/Timberlake series of Road To pictures would be awesome.
How about Joseph Gordon Levitt and Jason Segel? I like the idea of Mila Kunis in a sarong - she is gorgeous *and *funny, but no idea if she has any musical ability (did she do any of her own dancing in Black Swan?) Anne Hathaway is definitely multi talented and is quite pretty when she’s not made up to be a starving French heroine or a recovering drug addict.
