Who sings this version of Summertime?

It’s a guy and he trills and rolls his tongue a lot. He does this on many songs, but the only song I specifically remember is Summertime because I just heard it in the movie Stuck On You.
So, does anybody know the artist or any other of his songs?

I believe that is the version recorded by Billy Stewart in 1966 on Chess Records.

I think it’s Billy Stewart… I know it’s on this CD, but I can’t listen to the audio clips and my copy is at home. At any rate, I think the song you’re talking about is one of the versions there.

damn you Silenus! for once I know something and I take too long to type my reply… grrr.

Thanks to you both.

No worries, mon. Ska make everybody happy!

“Summertime…and the livin’ is easy.”

Well, damn - I’ve wanted to know the answer to this question for forever. How come I never thought to ask here?

Thanks Biggirl et al.

Now I have to go find a Billy Stewart collection.

And I just did :D.

God bless Downhome Music ( home of Arhoolie Records! ), which is just a five-ten minute drive from my place. Gotta give 'em a plug:

Thanks again folks.

Well done that man.

May I quibble slightly though:

“Summertime…and the livin’ is eeeeeeeeeasy.”

Damn. I thought this was about my band. :frowning:
