Very cool thanks for sharing.
That’s some schnozz.
The better to smell your blood, after he cuts you head off, with.
You know what they say…big nose, big empire.
Huh, I’m surprised at how almost like his visage in the mosaic in the House of the Faun in Pompeii that looks.
Probably means its a good likeness.
… or that one was informed by the other, or that both were taken from some common source …
But what is that between his lower lip and his chin?
Man, is he setting off anybody else’s gaydar? Mine’s at four alarms…
His upper lip?:smack:
It should be 5.
It is well-known he was a homosexual.
And what level did your *whoosh *alarm register?
Pretty cool stuff.
Yeah, that’s one helluva beak. Could chop trees with that thing.
Not bisexual?
Hellacool. Thanks!
Alexander has been a fascination of mine for years ever since I read Mary Renault’s novels when I was a kid. The primary sources (written ones I mean, not the coins and relics) are long gone but if Cassio and other ancient historians are even mostly accurate he was deserving of “the Great”.
I would LOVE to see a great movie or miniseries made of his life. I think HBO or some other cable channel could make a truly epic miniseries as a movie would never be able to do him justice. For a long time Leo DiCaprio had the rights to an Alexander novel but apparently it never actually got to pre-production.
(There was a rumor for a while that Oliver Stone was considering a movie about him for a while starring Colin Farrell, but nothing ever came of it; repeat: NOTHING EVER CAME OF IT, IT WAS NEVER MADE.)
He was an ancient Hellenized Macedonian emperor. He was what he was. While by all accounts he had passionate relationships and probably sex with men and women and eunuchs (who were considered a third sex) I doubt bisexual or homosexual either one would be appropriate as they’re way too modern. He left at least one and by some accounts two pregnant widows, the great love of his life was Hepheastion (“The only battle he ever lost was between Hepheastion’s thighs”) and was accompanied everywhere by his eunuch dancer Bagoas who he kissed romantically in public. While gays have claimed him for many years but the truth is probably a lot more complicated and what his natural orientation would be in today’s world- like the cost of Xanadu, no man can say.
Sampiro what was your opinion of Reign-The Conqueror?
Sorry for the delay- just noticed. I liked the concept but not the execution; I only watched the first couple of episodes but the fantasy anachronisms disrupted the enjoyment. It was something like the way over the top CGIs in 300; I’d have enjoyed the movie better for example if instead of a hideous monster the traitor had been just a “regular” (i.e. believable) deformee; I’d have enjoyed REIGN if they’d used classical Greek architecture as the anachronisms instead of fanciful sci-fi cityscapes.
