I want to close my checking account. It’s in New York and I’m in Michigan and have an account here anyways. I can’t close my account until it gets to a zero balance. It has 49 cents in it. Ideally, I’d like to give it to a charity, but the ones I’ve seen online take donations at least in 5 dollar increments.
So, if you can find a way to get 49 cents from my ATM card to your pocket or can give me the name of a place that desperately needs my 49 cents, it’s there.
Why can’t you write a check to yourself for the 49 cents? It’s a bit silly, but hey…
And I only occasionally use Paypal so I’m not sure if there are minimum transfers there, but you could make a Paypal account, link it to that checking account and transfer the 49 cents over. Now it’ll be in your Paypal, you can close that checking account and remove that from your Paypal acct and link the Paypal to your new checking account and transfer it to that.
Please don’t give it to some nfp. How much more work would that be, now for 49 cents? Now I would have to process it properly, which includes logging it on my income log and my deposit log, setting you up as a new donor, getting you in the system, depositing it in the bank…then at the other end the finance people have to move it to the correct account, then get it into our system.
I don’t understand why you can’t get your money either. Is it a minimum total you have to take out? If so, transfer money from another account, then take it out.
Bottom line? It’s YOUR money. Go to the bank and demand it. Besides, do you have fees if your account drops below a certain amount?
Ok, I see why you can’t go there, but call them up. They should cut you a check. It’s their responsibility. Or they can transfer it to your current account.
I can take your 49 cent donation to the Make-a Wish foundation if your ATM card has a Visa/Mastercard logo. You can either contact the store I work in directly by calling me, or contact the Things Remembered store closest to you. If you email me, I can give you my contact info, or, since I work in downtown Cleveland, you could go on the thingsremembered.com website and search for my store in zip code 44113. The bulk of the donations we get for Make-A-Wish are from spare change from rounding up to the next dollar…we will take donations in any amount. We’d appreciate your 49 cents, and might even get you a write-up in the newsletter!
The way the bank’s are right now, I could see them changing the account so a fee applied and then sending a notice you owe them $75 for not accessing it for a while.
