As you all may (or may not) know, it looks as though there will be a Recall Election in California for Governor.
As political theatre, it doesn’t get any better: Will a sitting governor be tossed out on his behind? Will Arnold become the Governator? How many Men (women) Who Would Be Governor shall we be treated to?
But, wait, it get’s better!
The threshold for being on the ballot for Governor of California is only $3500 and 65 signatures, OR $0.00 and 10,000 signatures.
That’s right! — every Yahoo with the price of a season Box Seat for a middling bad ball club and 65 friends, or anyone with a reasonably lame letter-writing campaign, can Be A Candidate for Governor! Well, OK, the Candidate, and all his/her supporters must be residents of California, but that’s still a damned big pool.
Jeez, this is great: if we all chip in $10 and a few paltry signatures, we could get any number of SDMB folks on the palette. Heck, if we can find 10k folks to sign a paper 10k times, we could get 10,000 candidates on the ballot!
OK, so who wants to be a candidate for Governor of California? Step right up! It’s the ultimate Reality Show!
As a California resident, I hereby nominate myself, standing on the “Darrell Issa is a big fat Gooney” party platform. All bow to Governor Presumptive Squeegee! Who wants to sign my petition? Please, folks – no pushing, please take turns.
Or, nominate your own favorite California resident SDMB member! Let’s all pony up a couple of bucks and get an SDMB candidate (or 10) on the ballot. We’ll straighten out CA in no time!
(FWIW, I think it’d be just dandy fine if this recall election happens and there are, oh, 100 candidates on the ballot. And then maybe we can get this silliness overhauled and get some sane election laws when the dust settles. I’ve got no beef w/ a recall campaign per se, but, jeezus! 65 signatures!?!?)
