I do, so I am trying to get on the syndicated show. Has anyone gone through the process? What is the written test like? What happens in the interview? Is Meridith Viera that cute in person?
Well I won’t be much help, but I’ll tell you my experience.
Back when they did auditions in different areas, I tested in the Detroit area and passed, but they never called me to be on the show.
Now, as far as I can tell, you have to go to New York and audition there.
The buggers do it by means of a phone line over here. If you answer the question correctly your name is entered and then drawn randomly. Apparently there’s another level of selection after that. The more times you enter, and incur the £1 cost of the call, the more chance you have of getting on. That ensures that smartarses who would actually have the brains to win the million quid (and I count myself among them…) rarely get on, otherwise there would be no tension.
I tried out in August, in NYC. There was a 30-question multi-choice test that covered all sorts of stuff (history, geography, literature, pop culture, science). Passed that – brief interview with a production assistant – thanks, we’ll let you know within three weeks if you’re in the pool.
I’m not in the pool.
Same thing happened to me in Harrisburg. The exam was general knowledge and much easier than the one for Jeopardy (which consisted of 30 questions that could have appeared on the second board, including some $1000-type questions).
And, no, they didn’t call me back, either. Now, you have to go to NY to audition, and if you do get selected, you have to pay your own way to go on.
I’ll still try to get on Regis’ show, however.
I was going to fly to NY to audition. I’m confident I’ll pass the written test, but it sounds like the screening is the harder part. What are they looking for?
If I knew that, I’d be in the pool.
Back when they were doing phone auditions for ‘super millionaire’ I actually qualified. It was basically four ‘fasted finger’ style questions, although time was not a big factor, other than the time limit (as in, the faster you did it had no bearing on your chance to get selected.)
I was told that if my name was randomly selected, I would get a return phone call on this day between this and this time. Of course…the time was during class. I brought my cell phone anyways and had it on silent mode, but not call.
But, yeah, I think know you have to go to New York, or be on the look out for testing places in your area. I also auditioned for ‘The Weakest Link’ once when they had a testing place in Albany. I must say, though, that the test questions for ‘Weakest Link’ were ten times harder than the questions actually on the show, cause I know at least 80% of the questions on the show, but did poorly on the test (of course, then of the 30 questions were geography…which I suck at.)
Human interest stories. Reasons why you should be the million. You know, things that, once the host introduces you and your background, will make people root for you to win.
