Who wants to help me troubleshoot my computer? (Can't upload files to net)

Anyone? Anyone?

I’m sure someone would be glad to help…if you explained what you are trying to do and the means by which you are attempting it. And the errors you get. Etc.

In a similar vein, my car won’t go.

Anyone help?

  1. Is it plugged in?

When I attach a file to email, it errors out. An inverted .jpg makes it through. When I upload to a filesharing site, it errors out; site shows a corrupted file.

(Work computer, boss has a security fetish; loaded with every possible spyware/adware/etc bell and/or whistle.)

What is an inverted jpg?

Is the file an image?

If it’s an image, can you open it in Internet Explorer? (not Windows Picture and Fax Viewer or Paint)

Have you run it through a virus scanner?

Can you zip it and send it as an attachment?

What does the error say? What program are you using to send email?

What is an inverted jpg?

Negative: blue goes orange, black goes white.

Is the file an image?

In this instance, yes, but no file works.

If it’s an image, can you open it in Internet Explorer? (not Windows Picture and Fax Viewer or Paint)

No; red X.

Have you run it through a virus scanner?

No.

Can you zip it and send it as an attachment?

Yes!

**No actual error message; it just shows up corrupted. Gmail. **

Here’s my guess…

Sounds like you have a jpg in CMYK mode. Open it up in Photoshop (or uhm…something else?) and go to IMAGE - MODE and change it from CMYK to RGB.

Web browsers (at least FF and IE) can’t read CMYK jpg files, just RGB. Since Gmail is web-based email, it doesn’t like your jpg because it can’t display it.

That’s probably the case; I’m doing stuff for print, not screen, and it never occurred to me to convert it. It mails OK from my home computer, with firefox, so I didn’t think it was an issue with the file.

Thanks!
