The drive you propose to do is really great…until Winnipeg. I echo those who say you should make a point of stopping in Banff/Jasper when you’re in Alberta.

But from Winnipeg around the north shore of Lake Superior is a lot of nothing. I’d recommend heading south into Minnesota and then driving across Wisconsin in order to reach Michigan…much more fun stuff to do, much more facilities to make use of.

There’s some great scenery through the canadian shield. Of course, this is coming from someone who lives in Winnipeg so YWWV.

As you go from BC to Alberta, be sure to take some time to see <snip> Banff.

Maybe you’ll find a wife there. I hear it’s a good place to look.

The one downside to the drive is that gas costs more up there, although with the recent price jump down here it might not seem so bad. I warn you though, it’s a long drive. Last year we drove from Baltimore to Montana in about 4 days, then turned right and drove all the way to Yellowknife. That’s about as far as you can go, the roads don’t really go north from Yellowknife. We got a boost when we hit the NWT and blackflies picked up the car and flew us for a couple of dozen Klm, but it is a long, long trip.
