Kennedy was president during my birth. First president I remember as president was Nixon.
I think my first memory of any action of his was some sort of price freeze that was announced on our car radio. Why I should remember something so singularly dull is beyond me.
Carter. I remember from Reagan’s re-election onward.
Bill Clinton, during the first year of his presidency.
Another of Ike’s baby boomers reporting in.
Born in the time of LBJ, whom I don’t remember. I remember Nixon mainly because my parents, despite being conservatives in general, hated him with a passion. First election I remember is Nixon v. McGovern, when I was 5 and my mom took me to the polls and they let me play with a toy voting panel, with levers and everything, while she did the real voting (if voting for McGovern counts as “real”).
Get off my lawn!
Hey, do you remember him being impeached or is that too early for you?
I mean, man, his impeachment is like recent history to me and it’s weird to think about people not remembering it.
I was born smack-dab in the middle of the Carter Administration, 1978. I remember the latter years of Reagan.
My dad had a man-crush on Bush Sr. when he met him at a conference, and shook his hand and got a pen from him, which is the only reason I knew about him as a lad.
I’m a Reagenaut. And the Canadian Idol guy’s dad was PM!
Mid-Johnson. Whether I’m a baby boomer or Generation X I leave as an exercise for the reader, cause I’m done trying to figure it out.
I remember lots of people getting shot when I was a little kid and Nixon resigned during our vacation week; we sat and watched color TV (goshwow!) in the motel eating Kentucky Fried Chicken and Mom and Dad were sad even though they couldn’t stand the guy.
JFK here.
The first president that I remember is LBJ (both parents politically active, lots of discussions around the house). The first presidential election that I voted in was in '84. I just missed the '80 election by a couple of months.
I was born during LBJ’s Presidency. One of the earlier memories I have is watching Nixon’s resignation speech live on TV. I remember my mother being captivated by what he was saying. She told me he had done bad things.
Lester B. Pearson was Prime Minister of Canada when I was born in March 1968. Trudeau was elected to succeed him a month later. I wasn’t feeling really old until I looked up Pearson’s Wiki page and noted he was born in the 19th century.
I was born during Ike’s first term, and I was old enough to know at the time that Kennedy and Nixon were the opposing candidates for President in the fall of 1960.
I’m Canadian, born in 1971 (Nixon’s first term) but was first vaguely aware that the President of the United States was Jimmy Carter at some point in Carter’s term.
I would have been born during Pierre Trudeau’s first term as Prime Minister and he would also have been the first PM I was aware of; I don’t believe I noticed Joe Clark’s brief tenure.
First year of Nixon’s first term. He’s also the first president I remember, though my clearest memory of him as POTUS is asking my mother why that man was on television so much today, and being told that he was the President, but he had done something very bad and wasn’t going to be allowed to be President any more.
Funny how kids’ perception of time is screwed up. I know Ford was then President for two years before the next Presidential election, but if I had to guess based on my memories I’d say a few months. No memory of him as Pres at all.
Nixon, although he resigned two weeks later. I was born on the day the Supreme Court ruled to release the tapes, which means that my birth was essentially the last nail in his coffin. I’m quite proud of that.
I was born in the middle of Ike’s second term. I don’t remember Ike, but I do remember every subsequent president.
I was born on the day of Reagan’s reelection. My mom wasn’t able to vote for Carter that day.
The first president I remember is probably Bush Sr., and the first presidential election is 1992. I voted for Perot in our 2nd grade mock election, and still have the sign I made.
Ike was in office when I was born (1957) but I don’t remember much of anything about him then. I do remember JFK’s assassination, however. That’s when I became aware for the first time that there was even such a person as a President, much less who he was.
Truman. I don’t actually remember him being President, but I do remember watching Eisenhower’s first Inauguration on our little b&w TV. And a few months later I watched Elizabeth II’s coronation. Yes, I’m that old.
The poll graph should be interesting: a simple bell curve modified by the length of each Presidency.
Do not remember LBJ. Don’t remember Johnson but boy, do I remember Nixon. He was on the TV ALL THE TIME! He even interrupted my cartoons.
