Who Was President of the US When You Were Born

Born about three months before National Convention season in Ike’s first term. I remember Kennedy, and went to stand around in a crowd at Edwards AFB* once in (probably) 1962, hoping to catch a glimpse of him. If there had been some sort of raised vantage point, say a knoll of some kind, for me to stand on, I might have managed it. And if it had been covered with grass, I could have lain down and taken a nap, because that day was BORING.

*Yes, I was there with my family. I was SIX, ffs.

Bah, I mis-clicked. I voted Carter, but it was Ford.

Born under Ford. First memory of a president is Reagan.

Give’ em Hell Harry for me, for my 16 months or so. The first president I remember is Eisenhower. The first election I was aware of was Nixon/Kennedy.

Ford here. It makes me feel sadly ancient that two people actually picked Clinton as the president they were born under.

  1. Truman. I dimly remember Eisenhower on the TeeVee.

.

JFK, he was inaugurated a few weeks before I was born. Whether real or imagined, I have vague recollections of his assassination at 2 yrs 8 months.

I was born during the Nixon Administration.
I remember the Watergate hearings coming on tv right after Captain Kangaroo.

I was politically aware early, and have memories of telling my grade two classmate that Jimmy Carter was the new President of the United States, but we still had Trudeau as Prime Minister. I got a lot of blank looks from my seven year old cohorts.

[nitpick]

Mondale, not Carter. Although I can see why one might forget him. And I’m pretty sure your mom’s vote wouldn’t have tipped the balance.

[/nitpick]

Ditto. I vaguely remember Nixon, but Carter was completely on my radar. I voted for him in my fourth grade mock election.

Sneaky age poll!

I don’t care what anyone says, William Howard Taft was a fine horseman.

Tricky Dick FTW.

Carter is the first president I remember.

The 1980 election was the first I remember paying any attention to because we had a mock election vote at my school. I also remember the “Voo-doo economics” line from the primary.

You and my folks can sit around chewing BlackJack gum and discussing whether or not to join the war in Europe!
JFK for me, but only by a couple of months.

Ford, by about 5 months (August 1976).

FDR
BTW, OPr, Carter’s legal and official first name is Jimmy

FDR

Bush, with vague recollections of Clinton, though I didn’t pay much attention to him partly due to being under 10 and partly due to being Australian. The first I really remember is Bush 2.

Carter. I was born in '79, six days before the Shah fled Iran and three days after the collapse of Pol Pot’s regime.

I knew of Reagan a bit, towards the end of his second term.

Trudeau was the Canadian PM, although Clark defeated him in the May '79 election. I was born in January.

As for me, my first memory is some brief sign on TV news about “Election 2000” but my first real memories are watching 9-11 on TV.

Heh. That doesn’t really narrow it down much, does it?
