Who Were the Funniest Cartoon Duet?

I was going to say “duo” but I wasn’t sure on the spelling so I went with duet(even though I think duet has something to do with singing.)

Anyway I would have to say hands down it goes Daffy Duck and the Tasmanian Devil. They just crack me up.

Daffy, I think was way underated as a cartoon performer. Bugs(who was cool) got all the good press as did his chief rival Yo Sam. Sylvester and Tweety got annoying at times. Lepu(sp ya know the stinky skunk) got over done and was probably my least favorite. The road runner and the coyote were cool but after while I wanted Willie to eat that little bird piece by piece then spit him out. Then cock his head at the audience and then walk off into the sunset maybe scatching his butt or something(cool ending to series I think). But Daffy was just so sarcastic, greedy, and coniving he was the best and funniest in my book.

But when you got him and Taz together oh it was so funnnyyy. Taz spinning, drooling and his intensity level was right on the money for great cartoon fun. He was like a funny dog that just never got tired but threatening at the same time.

Anyway that is my opinion. I do think that since it is my opinion I AM ABSOLUTELY RIGHT on this one.

Well? What about y’all what cartoon animated figures were the best in your opinion?

Mr. Burns and Smithers from The Simpsons.

Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd. The Rabbit of Seville and What’s Opera, Doc? put them over the top.

And Bill, I’m a major junkie for the old Warner Brothers cartoons, and I never saw Daffy and the Tazmanian Devil together in a cartoon (actually, they were probably both in Space Jam, but I’m thinking of the golden age, here).

Pinky and the Brain

Actually, Daffy Duck and the Tasmanian Devil were in a cartoon together. I don’t recall the name, but it is the one where the TD has escaped from the zoo and DD hears a radio announcer say that there is a million dollar reward for its return.

For my money, Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny were the greatest cartoon duo. Duck, Rabbit, Duck (“Duck season!” “Rabbit season!”) is the greatest of all Warner Brothers cartoons.

Honorable mention goes to Ace and Gary, the Ambiguously Gay Duo.

There were TWO incarnations of Daffy Duck. In the early years, Daffy was a lunatic. In later years, he was merely a stupid, greedy, selfish slob, used primarily as a foil for Bugs Bunny.

I happen to think the crazy Daffy was MUCH funnier than the greedy Daffy. And when crazy Daffy was matched against the hapless Porky Pig (like when Daffy was the Mad Moustache Bandit!), they were a brilliant comedy team. Daffy was like Groucho Marx, while Porky was a clueless Margaret Dumont, trying vainly to remain dignified in the presence of a nut!

That’s it! You got it goboy. That is my favorite cartoon of all time. Daffy was having such a hard time with that dilema " a million bucks but I am a little coward". Then when he finally gets the reward and Taz is back in his cage a bill from all the money Daffy just got paid blows into the cage with Taz. So you see Daffy jump in the cage and get in a fight with Taz and you see him emerge with the bill. Then he says, "I am little coward but I’m a GREEDY little coward. " Too funny. Thanks for the memory of that goboy.

I was right, I’ve never seen that one.

“Hmmm, pronoun trouble.”

Are you thinking of Duck, Rabbit, Duck specifically? There were two other cartoons in that trilogy (Rabbit Fire and Rabbit Seasoning were the others). They definitely featured Bugs and Daffy, but Elmer’s befuddled malevolence gave them something to fight about. I was thinking of those, too, when I said Bugs and Elmer were the best.

I think they only appeared in two cartoons together, but this just shows how memorable the pairing was.

Bugs Bunny and that Orange Monster in tennis shoes. They call him “Gossamer” now, but his name is actually Rudolph.

I’d give anything to see Bugs play hair dresser on that monster again.

“My stars, if an INNN-teresting monster can’t have an INNN-teresting hairdo, I don’t know WHAT the world is coming to - bobby pins, please.”

Then, in the other cartoon, he chides the monster on his dirty fingernails, then gives him a manicure. “Now, let’s dip our patties in the water…” and when he does, he gets snapped by mousetraps!

The monster was a brilliant foil to Bugs. I think he only appeared in those two cartoons; until, that is, the mass marketing machine geared up.

Another vote for Bugs and Daffy as the best duo. I love the WB toons, but my favorites lways have Bugs and Daffy in them. The Duck Rabbit Duck, Rabbit Fire, and Rabbit Seasoning mentioned above are classics.
(“Would you like to take him home, or shoot him now?”
“Shoot me now! Shoot me now!”)

There’s also the one (I forget the name) where they did an Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves bit. (“Hassan CHOP!”)

And my all time favorite WB cartoon, Duck Amok, stars mainly Daffy all by himself, but let’s not forget the ending when we find out who the mischievous artist was.

I’ll be the only person to vote for Babs and Buster Bunny, eh?

Daffy: “Slide, DiMaggio, slide!!”

Porky (as he is sliding to a mud pit): “Hey wait a minute!! I’m not Dimaggio. My name is iggiy-miggity, igg igg iggity mud.”
Of course, Porky got his revenge by using Daffy as an engine choke.

Porky and Sylvester:

Porky, in a preternaturally calm voice: "Sylvester, if you don’t remove yourself from my head, I. Will. Kill. You.

They only starred together in two cartoons, but they were hysterical.

Or Porky and Daffy made a great pair:

Daffy:
But really and truly I AM Robin Hood…

and…

Porky: H-h-h-happy bbbbirthday you tttthing from another world!
Marvin: OOOooo! Isn’t it looovely? <explosion>

And two Bugs Bunny foes who deserve a rematch:
The Bull, from Bullfighter Bunny, who actually, if you keep score, only loses by one point

and, my favorite one-shot Bugs opponent:

Giovanni Jones, in Long Haired Hare. Just his character design cracks me up, and it’s one of my favorite cartoons.

Fenris (who can recite all of The Rabbit of Seville, by memory. I’m not sure if I should be proud or ashamed)

One was a genius…the other, insane.

Rocky and Bullwinkle. Obviously.

Woody Woodpecker and Wally Walrus!

Be pwoud, be vewy, vewy pwoud

I’ve got to go for those two un-named Bill Plympton characters who are always resignedly torturing one another.

Another vote here for Daffy and Porky. The cartoon astorian mentioned, about the Mustache Bandit, never fails to put me on the floor laughing. (Mel Blanc’s reading of the line, “Awfully sporting of the little black duck, eh?” is a classic.)

Dangermouse! The World’s Greatest Secret Agent
…and Penfold, the world’s worst assistant.

Those cartoons contained the best (worst?) collection of puns and other word play.

Penfold is being menaced by two vacuum cleaners.
Vacuum cleaner #1: Hah! This one’s in the bag.
Dangermouse calls out: Don’t get taken in, Penfold!
Penfold, disgustedly, says to the camera: Any more jokes like that and it’ll be almost worth it.

-or-

Colonel K (DM’s boss): We’ve got a problem.
Dangermouse: I’m all ears, Colonel.
Colonel K: That’s alright, DM, none of us are perfect.

Anyway, put me down for voting that Daffy Duck’s Chuck Jones years were the best. IMH[sub](and ENTIRELY accurate)[/sub]O, DD’s lines then were cleverer than the “Woo-hoo! Woo-hoo!” years.

On a personal note let me say this: The Porky and Sylvester “fraidy-cat” cartoon in the haunted house ("…and the deer and the antelope p-p-p-…and the deer and the antelope p-p-p-.") is the only cartoon that makes me roll on the floor laughing, and still be creeped out. The music that plays over the ghost scene makes the hair on my arms stand up.
