Who/What are the Borgs?

I need an incredibly terse explanation, pls. – it’s for a crossword clue. Would either of the following work?

[ul]
[li]“Star Trek” heavies[/li][li]Federation foes[/li][/ul]

Or is there a better way of going? Remember – two or three words is ideal.

Muchas gracias, mi amigos!

Resistance is futile.

No doubt – but that doesn’t give me a clue. So to speak.

“Trek cube dwellers.”

I like both of yours, though.

Both of those clues work. I especially like “Federations Foes”. For a harder clue, you might want to try something like:

“Enemies of Enterprise”. That way, the puzzler will have to realize that “Enterprise” refers to the Star Trek ship, instead of business, and then know that the Borg are one of the villians in Star Trek.

“Borg” is always in the singular. There are no “Borgs;” there is only Borg.

If this is supposed to be cryptic at all, I suggest something like “single-minded cubists.” Playing on both the collective nature of the species and its preferred mode of transport.

It’s just the Borg. Never Borgs. That would kind of ruin the whole ‘hive mind’ thing.

Several Swedish Tennis Champs

unless Star Trek is compulsory

Damn, no plural?

Sigh.

I was trying to get away from “Bjorn et al.”

Oh well.

Thanks, all.

Or combine yours and Tapioca’s ideas, and make the clue, “Picard’s Tennis Partner”.

Partners surely?

How about “whooosh!”

It’s a quote, son! Try and keep up, here.

I think Voyager did a good job at that.

“Federation Foes” would be incredibly vague, because that could be any number of enemies…Romulans, Borg, Dominion…Borg are the only four letter ones I can think of, but I like the “Like-minded Cubists” one.

What about Lorne’s People?

And just in case, it’s Ferengi, not Ferengis. And The Q, not The Qs.

I got it, I just didn’t think it was that funny.

Actually, it wasn’t meant to be funny. It was meant as an answer to your question.

Aha. Since it wouldn’t work as a clue, I assumed it was a joke. My bad.

Okay, I guess I’m missing something here. A google search of

“resistance is futile” borg

got 17,000 hits. How can putting down “Resistance is futile” not count as a clue?

I think it has to do with Crossword rules. There are rules/guidelines for the clues and stuff.

Well, yeah, if he wants “borgs”
