Who will be Clinton's running mate?

Based on everything I’ve seen and read, including interviews on TV with Perez, I think Perez would help her (at least, as much as a VP can help an experienced Prez candidate).

That would deliver Florida, and that makes the election a slam dunk for Clinton.

Is Perez Cuban? If not, he doesn’t deliver Florida.

He speaks Spanish and his family is from Sooth America. He’ll deliver.

Castro might not due to his name.

Didn’t we just have a discussion about how Cruz and Rubio couldn’t win the Mexican vote because they were Cuban? I would think the opposite is true as well. I do know enough to know that Latinos don’t particularly care whether candidates are Latino. if they did, Kamala Harris would be toast in California with Loretta Sanchez her opponent.

Perez’s parents are from the Dominican Republic. His father was a physician and his mother’s father was the Dominican Ambassador to the US.

So he’ll do great with the Dominican vote, probably very poorly with Haitians.

I’m seeing a name James Stavridis; I like what I see, and I’ve researched his views. Looks like a good pick.

That’s an awesome pick. If she picks him, I could actually vote for Clinton and not Gary Johnson. Maybe. Then again, I’ve always been an admirer of Joe Biden’s and it didn’t get me to support Obama. But I find Clinton a lot less noxious than Obama, so who knows?

Not us, that’s for sure.

Here’s more on Perez and Stavridis:

I suspect Stavridis is only being considered in case Trump picks, as has been rumored, a retired general as his running mate.

I just can’t imagine a retired admiral as a running mate without these seven words popping into my head: “Who am I? Why am I here?”

More importantly though, he was a NATO commander.

25% of the Florida Hispanic population is of Cuban origin. If you’re going to excite a group, go with the other 75%.

Michelle Obama. For the win.

Meh. Military fetishists always vote Republican, I don’t think a military veep is going to pull them over. In general, military people make poor politicians. They’re used to saying “jump” and everyone else saying “how high?” The adjustment to the realities of politics may be too much for one of them to overcome.

The smart money is on Kaine, but I think Warren would electrify the base. I’m starting to swing over to the school of thought that says you win elections by having the base turn out and vote, Warren could do this.

I have to admit, I actually got goose bumps when I saw Hilary and Elizabeth on stage with their linked hands held high in the air.

Maybe it’s because I’m a female, but I gotta say, I found it to be a very powerful image.

A GOP opposition super PAC called America Rising has set up a website with talking points attacking each presumptive running mate, so that once she announces, I guess, the right can go get their talking points and start a-hammerin’.

She would help with that for sure but I think she’s do more for those not of the base as well.

  1. Economic populism cuts across all party lines. Warren approaches the subject with more depth and pragmatic vigor roll up the sleeves and get stuff done that actually does something than anyone else on the scene. It’s a no bullshit, not for show, approach, a burger that’s more meat than bun.

  2. She baits Trump like no one else also, and Trump acting out is the best thing the Clinton campaign can hope for to sell the swingables on them. The largest group of usually voting swingables? White women who have usually voted GOP. Currently many of them are not comfortable with Trump but not ready to move to voting Democratic: a barrage of Trumpian misogyny has good chance of pushing them all the way over, along with some like-minded college educated White men.

Isn’t that helpful of them?

Interesting that for some, their “lack of experience” is an arguing point, but for others, being a “career politician” is a talking point. Reminds me of that scene in Raising Arizona:

I note that they are missing Stavridis.

Reading through, their strongest case is against Castro… though I want to counter that San Antonio thrived under his leadership. But, admittedly, likely not through anything Castro accomplished. But Hispanics, at least around here, love him.

Their weakest case is against Sherrod Brown - “OMG, he’s a Democrat!” Who knew?

I note that one of their points about Perez is an email server issue. Where’s his investigations? :frowning:

I never thought of Cory Booker as a serious candidate, seems like a NJ Castro.
