It would be even better with a lefty Latino who is also an engaging speaker that actually *speaks *Spanish, like Tom Perez.
Yes, sadly Webb has vowed not to support Clinton. But it’s false to say he supports the Confederate flag and is critical of BLM (considering he was working for incarceration reform years before the BLM made racial disparities in the justice a national concern).
Yes, I think Schweitzer would be a great choice. He’s almost as socioeconomically left-wing as Sanders while being a far more genuine populist then TRUMP. Of course, the Shakesville crowd is going to bitch and whine if he ever gets chosen because he once used the term “whore” and isn’t a gun grabber.
At least from my memory (can’t search for links right now), he pretty explicitly defended displaying the Confederate flag, and pretty explicitly criticized BLM, both quite recently, whatever he’s worked for before.
Oops, sorry. That’s what I get for trying to search from my phone.
He’s probably a good pick. He’s kind of a goofy looking guy, though. He runs the risk of being saddled with the “dopey VP” label.
I don’t think it will be McAuliffe. He hasn’t had that much time in elective office, and his past as a fundraiser and party chairman would make the pick look like pure cronyism. Not that Clinton is above cronyism, but if she wants to be palatable to voters angry at the current system, she shouldn’t pick someone whose career has been as a party insider and money raiser.
I heard she might pick a woman for her running mate . I hope not ! I think she would better off picking a man . I really can’t see Hillary winning . I don’t like her or Trump and I am not looking forward to voting in Nov. I think I dislike Hillary more than Trump and I can’t stand him! Plus I am not ready for a woman president ,I am a woman myself .
I like Julian Castro. He’s a true rising star, he has the attention and respect of much of the Hispanic community, which will play no small factor in this election, and he’s already done some good work for Hillary on the trail. If he maintains this trajectory of popularity, he could be a strong candidate in 2024. The idea of 16 more years of White House control appeals to me.
I’m curious if Joe Biden wants the job again. He’s funny, personable, destroyed Ryan at the VP debates, has the experience, and we wouldn’t be losing a Dem congressman
And besides that, he’s good enough, he’s smart enough, and, doggone it…people *like *him!
Castor is not a good name to the American electorate.
Well our current President is Barack Hussein Obama.
I’ve been hearing Tom Perez bandied around quite a bit in the media. He seems to be on the short list.
I’ll throw out a dark horse suggestion of former Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick. He got his political rise in the attorney general’s office in the first Clinton presidency, has 8 years of executive experience, is generally well-liked, is not currently in office so the Dems don’t lose anything by adding him to the ticket, and is obviously not white
On the minus side, he supported Obama in 2008 against Hillary, but I’m not sure how much that matters.
Probably not, considering the age of the electorate and who votes.
Them old farts remember spoons full of Castor Oil…
Deval is a great candidate on paper and while I really like him, he sucks at public speaking, his voice lacks real gravitas and I think that makes it difficult for people to take him seriously. I could see him ending in an appointed position but don’'t think he has a strong future in elected positions.
What does that even mean? Do you have to put on make up or something before you are ready?
What about the US makes us less prepared for a female leader than the rest of the world?
What do you think you can do to *get *ready? Might be wise to start thinking about that.
'Cause it might happen…
I’m confused about what makes Castro a rising star other than his looks and youth and ethnicity. Does he have any accomplishments under his belt that draw attention to him? Is he an amazing public speaker, which was how Obama vaulted into the spotlight in 2004? I’ve never even heard the guy speak before myself, and it’s not like I’m disconnected. I watch as much C-span as ESPN.
Cory Booker, by contrast, has a lot more going for him and is probably ready to be President should the need arise. He has legit executive experience.
Deval Patrick, who has also been mentioned here, would also be an excellent choice. Unlike Booker, I don’t think I’d like him to be President, but I have a lower bar for VP. He’s qualified to be President and he’s non-offensive.
He does* look* like a Lizardman Overlord.
He’s a very good speaker, in addition to decent but low-key accomplishments and experience at the local and cabinet level. Otherwise, it’s probably based mostly on potential and (presumably) the kind of personal and inside knowledge that prominent Democrats have for young and rising Democrats. They won’t pick him unless they think he’s really good.
A lot of time people think I am guy when I post on line and even when I said
I was grandma people still called me a guy. I had posted on another forum I wouldn’t vote for Hillary and some people thought I was a guy. I don’t think US is as advanced as other country about women being capable of being the president . And I personally not think Hillary is up for the job , she looked older just running for president .
He was the keynote speaker at the 2012 Dem Convention-- the same speaking engagement that launched Barack Obama to the next level. He’s also former mayor and holds a cabinet-level position. Now, before everyone goes “But [del]Houston’s[/del] San Antonio’s mayor is a weak mayor and HUD secretary is weaksauce…weaky, weak, weak,” those three things still look fucking good on a resume, and are impressive accomplishments for someone his age.
Will those things translate to a bigger and more successful political career? Maybe, maybe not, but he didn’t just go from Wal-Mart greeter to vice presidential candidate.
