How did you attribute a quote to me when I said no such thing?
I’m THRILLED he’s running. He will force the illegal immigration issue to be dealt with more than it would otherwise.
[Mr Burns]
Excellent…
[/Mr Burns]
Dennis Kucinich. But I accept it won’t be him, even though all other announced and unannounced candidates are, utterly without exception, shit by comparison. I’ll campaign for him until the 2008 Dem convention, then campaign for the Dem nominee, just like I did in 2004. Politics being the art of the possible.
If the illegals are delt with any kind of force and messure, I fear we’ll get their wrath in a big way – poison in our food supply and all kinds of sabotage like you can’t imagine.
Meh, that is being a little on the paranoid side. The majority are trying to get by by not breaking laws that could deport them.
Here is what you **really ** need to fear:
The clone of Tancredo over here in Arizona, J.D. Hayworth, was surprisingly defeated in part thanks to people like me, Hispanic citizens that vote. And even when many do agree in protecting the border, many more are upset by the fact that only punishment and no reform is the Republican message.
When the local conservative Hispanic business magazines repudiated the message, I really think the Republican leadership is shitting in their pants right now because they realize that with a Tancredo run they likely have lost the Latino vote for 2008.
Like e. coli at taco bell? I think you exaggerate a bit much.
Tancredo anounced his run, I think you are talking about what would give him the runs.
(Yes, I know you were replying to benny73)
At first I thought this was some sort of weird joke thread, what with the OP suggesting Michael Savage should be president and one of the early responses suggesting Newt Gingrich could be president. So imagine my surprise that it’s taken a serious turn!
So who’s most likely to be the next president? Al Gore, of course. Once Democratic primary voters have tired of Clinton/Obama/Edwards and want someone with ideas and experience, Gore will be in perfect position. He’s got sufficient name recognition to overcome the late start in fund-raising, so assuming he still wants it and has learned anything from his previous run, I can’t see any of the other candidates beating him. Even Savage.
This statement is true for values of “so” including, but not limited to: Mass-scale LSD spiking of the water supply, space alien invasion, and flying pig migrations.
He’ll lose the primary to Lyndon LaRouche
Carefully considering all the leading candidates, I would like to see Rudy Giuliani as our next President. I will not be upset if Obama wins.
I think Rudy actually has a chance. Mitt Romney has gain no ground since he announced, it appears he will lose his home state. Rudy is leading the Republicans in most states in most polls and beating the Democratic front-runners in many polls for the National polls. All other Republicans are losing and usually badly.
Rudy’s numbers have actually increased since January. However, Rudy will eventually be picked apart by the other Candidates and his record has many holes in it. Additionally he is not beloved by his city, more the region around NYC.
He is playing well in the Midwest, but his divorces and gay friends might back fire on him. The Religious Right will not like him. Gun nuts will also dislike him but not as much as Clinton.
He will probably be a Nixon-like President without be as nasty or downright evil. Think strong foreign policies, fairly liberal social policies and extremely tough on crime. He will probably be the friendliest Republican to the Environment. Except for Gore, none of the Democrats distinguishes themselves here either. His court appointments will be interesting. They will need to pass a litmus test of being tough on criminals and racketeering laws. I do not know how this will work out for the abortion issues.
He has a streak of honesty, but like all politicians is far from perfect. His corruption level appears to be not very high. He has been nasty to his political enemies. This is where I see parallels to Tricky Dick coming into play.

America has a large crop of very able candidates. Apart from Hillary Clinton, I think that most of the front and second-line candidates will serve America well. Whether or not you agree with them is another matter.
For the Republican candidate, look to Bush’s choice when Cheney retires later this year.
LaRouche usually runs as a Dem.
A Senate chock full of presidential candidates will never confirm someone to whom they would be giving a leg up in the race. If Cheney does quit, a placeholder would be appointed.
What makes you think Cheney will finally retire?
What makes you think being associated with Bush will help someone get elected in 2008?
Jim
Well, I seem to have a little higher opinion of these lawbreakers than you do. I think they should go back home and come here legally (yes, we need to refrom the whole damn system). And I don’t think they would go from being people who are here illegally to mass murderers. Maybe you have some information about them I don’t. But if you’re sick prediction should come to pass, American citizens will be up in arms. Finally. Of course, there will be the usual flock of apologists here on SDMB that will attempt to excuse or minimize the behavior. Perhaps you can join up and fly point.
I’m with What Exit? on this one.
Since the adoption of the XIIth Amendment in 1804, only two incumbent Vice-Presidents have been elected President: Van Buren, and Bush41. Not coincidentally, both of them had been Vice-President to two of the most popular (at the time)[sup]1[/sup] Presidents: Jackson and Reagan.
Bush43’s popularity rating is currently hovering at record lows.
Why would being hand-picked by Bush43 be an advantage in the election?
- Qualifier inserted to pre-empt the inevitable pitting of Andy Jackson by certain posters.
I thought Cheney would retire before or just after Bush’s second run. He didn’t. Now it’s too late.
If he did, we could expect some veeeeery interesting confirmation hearings – a new VP has to be confirmed by both houses of Congress, according to the 25th Amendment.
