Rare in Marvel? Recently? They killed off the Wasp not long ago. They functionally killed off the Scarlet Witch & Kitty Pryde.
I don’t know that I’d go so far as the kicking Jordan’s ass bit, but the rest is undoubtedly true. Which, oddly, is why Ben might be killed. He’s the last man on Earth who’s going to stay out of a fight just because he’s temporarily powerless. If any of his teammates were in danger he’d die before giving up his defense of them. Likewise – even more so, probably – the two kids.
They just did an arc about Sue’s death (well, future Sue) so it would pretty lame.
It’s also dumb to make it a “death.” If you depowered Johnny, he’d be absolutely worthless to the team. Depower him and you can still do the “Three” arc.
I said relatively rare. Everyone in comic books gets killed once in awhile.
Can’t say that about a depowered Reed, though. (Heck, even when he’s got his powers he makes it through story after story without bothering to get all stretchy.)
It’d actually surprise me a little if they killed off Sue—wouldn’t that kinda go against Joe Quesada’s supposed mother issues?
I would wager good money that he’ll die when Stan Lee dies.
True, there was a great story arc in the 1970s, around issue 170 or so, where Reed lost his powers and still managed to defeat Annihilus, the Frightful Four and others.
My money is on Johnny dying, all of the others have died at some point so it would be a rehash of the past to kill them. Plus he’s the most replaceable as there are currently at least two other human torch like beings in the MU and that is not including mutants, aliens and former heralds of Galactus.
Although the Thing is not unique as a character, except maybe in appearance, and is the second most replaceable I hope they keep him around because he works so well as a character, not as a power set.

The Marshall Rogers book? If so, I found a copy in the back of a bait shop on a lake in the middle of Wisconsin this summer. Quite a treat.
No, the current run, written by Matt Wagner, and drawn, primarily, by the amazing Amy Reeder. (She’s not drawing the current arc - she trades arcs with other artists - as she will also be doing on Batwoman, although there the other artist will be consistent - the co-writer, JH Williams III.)
Fantastic Four: Countdown to Resurrection!
A 324-part mini-series across 278 titles. Coming in 2012!
Well that was anti-climactic
He doesn’t even die onscreen? Just assumed to be overwhelmed and left for dead. Yeah that’s a death that’s going to stick. At least Captain America was actually shot
In fact i’ll even wager when <dead FF member> returns. One million internet points says that they’ll be back for issue 600.
Supposedly they’re retiring the Fantastic Four series that has been in continuous publication since 1961. They’re ending it with issue 588. And then in May, a new series, called “FF” launches. So everyone will get a chance to get FF #1, which will almost certainly be a reboot of the Fantastic Four.
Enjoy,
Steven
Since they’ve had two other reboots (Ultimate Marvel, plus that whole thing with Franklin Richards), why do they think this one will be any better?
 Classy move Marvel, classy move.
They’ve ended it and relaunched with a new #1 before, then a few years later reversed it and brought back the old numbering. Pretty much any Marvel series with the numbering above 200-300 has been through this, other than maybe Uncanny X-Men.
So, is Johnny dead?
It has been confirmed already many times. Now, they better not bring back that stupid H.E.R.B.I.E. robot to replace him…
