Who Will Speak For Cable Softcore Porn?

“That’s a WOMAN?”

Soft core movies can be very profitable (based on their costs to produce) and affordable to make. Many soft core movies are edited versions of Hard core movies that have already been shot. Camera angles are done to not show what they dont want shown. This allows us to make a second movie at little cost. As for who watches it, many people do. It is not the the majority market share but there are enough consumers of it to produce these second edits and show a decent profit.

Hmm, looking at that list, I see he was also in the Doctor Who movie that aired on Fox back in 1996.

Women supposedly either find soft core less objectionable, or like it better than, hard core.

I liked Lord of the G-String and Playmate of the Apes. Or maybe I just like Misty Mundae.

Some softcore films are a lot better than the others, but as you say, I dont know of any that rise to the level of a competent mainstream movie. Now if you compare them with made for SyFy Channel movies, you might have more of an equivalence, though even then, the budgets and hence the production values might be higher.

Glad you liked my shout-out to Carl Sagan.

I’ve seen The Witches of Breastwick, it’s a pretty good softcore movie, mainly because it had some very well-endowed leads, Glori-anne Gilbert and Julie K. Smith. It did have the look of a cheapie production all right. And you are wrong about stripping just large breasted women, most actresses in softcore films have small or average size breasts. You just happened to watch one of the few films with a lot of large-breasted actresses.

Well hardcore has no plots, true, and it’s well known for having engaged in a prolonged “race to the bottom” in terms of production values. What hardcore has is its hardcoreness, explicit sexual images and plenty of them … and nothing else. So we KNOW why people watch hardcore. I’m not saying that that makes up for the rest. I’m saying it is what it is.

That’s fair enough. Hardcore can be kinda gross.

“I am the Spewlax! I speak for the vees!”

Could be. As I said, I saw the documentary but not the movie itself.

But I did check the IMDb pages of the actresses. They’ve been in more than a few movies. There must be at least a large niche for large breasts.

I had access to hardcore at the time, so I wasn’t watching it for the sex, hardcore is much better in that respect, at least, some of it was. I just thought it would be incredibly cool if the softcore films were to develop at least competent writing like they have on most TV series. Never happened.

Everybody likes Misty Mundae. About the only reason I ever actually bothered to sit through a softcore film.

She did very well in the non porn Master Of Horror episode called Sick Girl. Did you see her in that?

I was going to mention Californication. It actually has writing, a plot, and acting. It’d be watchable even if the nudity and sex were removed (you’d still have to hint that the characters have sex since it’s often intengral to the plot). The “porn” is not even a very big fraction of an episode.

Even Shameless, which is an excellent show, has scenes that could be considered softcore porn.

I know she’s been on some episodes of CSI and she was on a television series called Lingerie, but I’ve never seen anything with Mundae that wasn’t a soft core movie. I hope she has a long and successful career even if it isn’t in the nude.

The really high budget hardcore movies will often get trimmed down into softcore versions suitable for video stores and cable. For example, the XXX epic Pirates had a version that was only rated aarrrrrrr!

 haha

/me shoots Greasy Jack. “Sorry, it had to be done!” :stuck_out_tongue:

With what, exactly?

My husband watches a TV series about a therapist? writer? who has a boyfriend who she soft-cores and stories? fantasies? therapy sessions? with a bunch of soft-corness involved. It’s black people, so you may not have seen it.

Damn, I can’t remember the name. Zaire? Zane?

Anyway, this series tries very hard to be a passable soft-core soap opera. What I think is a real barrier is the venn diagram of people who will fake fuck on camera and people an ounce of acting talent has a very small overlap.
