Who would you choose as a moderator for the next debate?

The Republicans are unhappy with the questions asked at their most recent debate. Assume that the Democrats are likewise displeased, and both camps have decided that they will ask for new moderators in order to shake things up. You may choose three for each Party, and the only limitation is that they should have some experience in politics and/or public speaking, so you could in theory choose John Stewart or Glenn Beck.

If a mod feels that this is in the wrong place, please move it.

I’ve got some experience in politics. I’ve done my research and voted in every election (federal, state, and local) since 1976. I nominate me.

Rachael Maddow, Keith Olbermann and Jon Stewart for Republicans.

Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity for Democrats.

My secret crush, Rachel Maddow. Yes, for the Republican debates.
Don Imus would be great too. Lots of entertainment value.

But I strongly suspect the RNC wants something akin to Sherry Lewis and Lambchop to moderate the next one.

Just from the title, I came in to sat Jon Stewart. But then, I’ve been saying that ever since I heard he was leaving The Daily Show.

I think he’d do a great job on either side, because he’d being doing his job for the voters, not for the candidates.

The complaint from the GOP though, was too many “Gotcha” questions. Apparently they just want somebody to lob cotton balls at the stage and keep the conversation from centering on Trump’s hair. I wonder if we could trick them with somebody who seems really sweet, but would then pounce on them unmercifully.

Betty White could pull it off I bet . . .

Miller. Or if we’re going all-time, manhattan.

Well, this is sort of fun to think about.

I don’t know that they’d be good at it,but Anne Coulter and Bill Maher would love to be in on a debate, I bet.

Jon Oliver or Jon Stewart or Steven Colbert would be great. They would make the questions fun, yet important.

For Dopers, I think Bricker should be a moderator for the Democrat debate. Republicans, you will have to answer to LHOD.

Those are just the first two dopers to come to mind. There are many others I could name, but I’ll start there.

Who’s today’s Cronkite? That is, a respected newsman who could serve? Dan Rather? Charlie Rose? If Ed Bradley was alive I’d certainly pick him.

Let’s get the old Colbert persona out of cryogenic storage to moderate the DNC, if Stewart’s doing the RNC. If Colbert won’t do it, Ann Coulter moderates the Democrats, and Bill Nye the Pubs.

I came here just to post this.

Rush Limbaugh would be perfect

Not quite in the same league, but Gwen Ifil (PBS Newshour) has moderated debates in the past, and I think she’d be excellent for either side.

If they want someone who doesn’t have a dog in the fight, I think Rick Mercer would be good. But I very much doubt that’s what they want.

Bill Clinton and Dick Cheney for the Republicans. Dubya and Al Gore for the Democrats.

We’d never hear from the candidates.

It’s strange to consider that the GOP has gone so far right that these are considered equivalent, but on opposite sides.

It’s strange to consider that the Democrats has gone so far left that these are considered equivalent, but on opposite sides.

How much time are the moderators allowed to expose the lies of the candidates?

How about we hook polygraphs to them and get live results as they speak? Or do a split screen with Pinocchio?

Marley. He’ll ban all the candidates.
