We discussed how textbooks were written in this forum a few months ago. Creationists have finally prodded the science community to consider a sincere effort (instead of just ignoring) to counter the creationist line. Things may be looking up! Or are the scientists just kidding themselves and no amount of instruction can counter personal beliefs?
I think when you are dealing with children, there is always hope. Since what the child may already believe is the result of teaching, reversing that process should not be difficult. Of course, there may be bigger concepts their minds are not willing to fathom when simpler story book ones have come first.
Scientists have countered Creationist claims over and over and over again. The claims certainly have not been ignored. The Creationists don’t want actual evidence, they want faith (although they’ll certainly cheer about any evidence that appears to support their beliefs). Some Creationist arguments try to use scientific evidence or scientific skepticism, but even these claims have been debunked. The Creationists’ claims usually come down to, “but the Bible says…”.
