Whoa, it's 60 degrees out! Better put on the parka, scarf and woollen hat!

…seriously, what a bunch of wusses!

For me, it has only just now become tolerable to be outside again after this eight month long summer we’ve had here (DC area).

…and it’s not just the frail skinny types with no insulation, either; I saw a 300 lb woman park her car, put on a parka, scarf, hat, etc. to walk (not exaggerating here) 75 ft. to an office building.

I, of course, must be some sort of freak for not needing a coat until it drops to the low 40s, but still…WTF?

*Note: I’m only referencing her weight because I was under the impression that heavier folks weren’t as cold-sensitive as skinny people.

As Andy Richter once said, being heavy is like “wearing a big old fat-sweater.” Though I suppose if you wind up with circulation problems, it could make you more sensitive to cold.

Here in NC, the radio announcer said, “It’ll be cool today, with a high of 70 degrees . . .” and all I could think of was as a kid in Minnesota, we would beg our parents to let us wear shorts once it got up to 60 in the spring. Though, yes, it is a lot cooler than the record-breaking heat we’ve been having lately, so I won’t complain too much.

Here in the Containment Area of Relocated Yankees, you can tell the native Carolinians because they bundle up when it gets below 70, while we hardened Northerners might put on a sweater.

You can find lizards anywhere though. Over here in the UK, it’s all of about 15 degrees out there. I’m sitting in the office in jeans and a t-shirt. Not 30feet away is a colleague wearing a rollneck sweater, a thick cable-knit cardigan and with a space heater switched on under her desk to keep her feet warm.

I haven’t had the heart to tell her that I’m also sitting next to an open window!

I’m surprised a DC doper hasn’t chimed in with a “she got a parking space 75 ft. from her office; that’s that real WTF of this post”…

I’ve been wearing long-sleeve shirts this week, and it’s still getting up to nearly 90 during the day. The only reason I’m wearing those shirts is that I haven’t gotten around to doing my laundry and my wardrobe is running low. Besides, a long-sleeve shirt isn’t two sweaters and a hat or anything.

Was this in DC proper? If so, then yes, WTF? How’d she get that lucky?

Hee, I am wearing long-sleeved shirts, yes, and jeans, yes, but still sandals. Not time to get rid of those yet!

If it weren’t for the weight, I would have thought you were talking about my mother-in-law. Anything below 70 is time to start layering clothes.

Yep; L’Enfant area. She’s not that lucky, though; she’ll have to move in two hours.

I pull out the raincoats/light jackets as soon as the temperature drops below 60, and I consider myself a complete wuss about the cold. But I’m always amused at the people who are wearing a wool coat, scarf, and hat in October. I can’t help but think “What on earth are you going to do when it gets cold?”

We bitch longer and harder. And wear two coats.

My parents moved from Brooklyn to retire to Las Vegas. They now think anything under 70 is cause for heavy coats and a heater. I, OTOH, am still in the Northeast and think anything above 85 is cause for air conditioning and lots of cold showers so it all evens out.

It was 14C here yesterday, and there were all sorts of people wandering around in big coats. Some with hats. Come on, guys! This is Canada! It’s only five degrees below shorts and a t-shirt weather! You’re all going to die when it hits -20!

I’m enjoying it. I love fall and winter. Anything down to -15 is perfect.

As a relocated Torontonian, I’ll never understand why so many people in Georgia have snow chains for their tyres. The every other year early morning of flurries cannot justify this, nor the snow boots that are so fashionable. I sunbathe every January 1 as I start the gardening year.

Colorado mountains here. Don’t really consider it cold until it’s below 0f. Yet I do see migrant workers running around in the summer in parkas with the hood up.

My thoughts exactly.

Maybe her appointment was to show off her line of outerwear…

Really I have no idea. But I’m sick of every single item in my summer wardrobe. I might haul out a few sweaters myself and just crank the AC at work down to 55º

I was visiting Arizona years ago and I remember going out at night to find EVERYONE around me wearing parkas and hats. It was like, maybe 65? I couldn’t believe it. But then again, it WAS Arizona…

When I left Chicago for NC a year ago, I left my heavy winter coat with a friend so it would be available if I needed it when I visit there over the winter. I certainly don’t have any need for it here. In fact, I barely needed the “early winter” coat I did bring with me. It was fun watching all the people bundled up with scarves, and complaining about the cold when it started approaching freezing

Earlier this week it went from 90 to 55 on consecutive days, now that’s not woolen hat territory, but with the rapid change like that it sure feels like it.

Heh. My future mother-in-law turns on the heat in the house once it gets below 70 degrees outside.

The coldest weather I’ve gotten was when I lived in Tallahassee. Because I grew up closer to Ft. Lauderdale than Tallahassee, I put on long sleeves once it got down to 60. When it got to 50, I’d put on a sweater. Any lower than that, and I’d pull out a jacket and use that over the long sleeved shirt. Once it got colder than 30, I’d wear the jacket over a sweater. No big deal.
