Whoa Whoa...Wolverine is a girl?

IIRC her first appearance was in the X-Men Evolutions cartoon, before being brought into the comics themselves.

X-23 isn’t anywhere near as cool a name as Wolverine.

The order goes like this:

  1. Innocence Lost - collects the first miniseries with her origins and NYX… which is a kind of hard to describe miniseries about homeless teenage mutants (of which X-23 is one)
  2. Target X - collects the second mini which goes into her background a little more
  3. X-23 vol. 1 - ongoing series 1-6
  4. X-23/Daken - ongoing series 7-9, crossover with Daken
  5. X-23 vol. 2 - ongoing series 10-16
  6. X-23 vol. 3 - ongoing series 17-21

Probably only the first two are “must reads”.

She should totally be named Honey Badger.

Not to be confused with Wolverina…

Well that’s way better than my suggestion of Capybara.

Or any of these ones.

Agreed. And she’s a nice addition to Avengers Academy.

On the other hand, there’s Dioken/Diaken/whatever his name is, the whiney-little-emo son of Wolverine. Worst. Character. Ever.

And when I say “Worst character ever”, I’m including including characters like the robot Captain Marvel who can shoot parts of his body at people, Howard the Duck’s version of The Punisher (a guy with who likes to paddle/spank people) and Legion rejects like Infectious Lass or Plaid Lad, or even more obscure characters like Hate Face (who only appeared as a dead body on the Shanghalla asteroid. A corpse is a better character.*

No, really, he is. Daikon? “Whaah! I got daddy issues so I’m either sad :frowning: or mad ” Hate Face? “HATE FACE: The face of a Devil, the Soul of an Angel. He rescued millions, Yet none could bear his revolting visage. Some say he died in battle. Others say it was his broken heart that killed him!”* Ok, it’s not say, Watchmen, but it’s still better then “Whaaah. Daddy didn’t give me enough hugs!”

**I’m not making this up

Daken. I stopped reading before he came along.

I’m not the only one who did a Google image search for x-23 cosplay, am I?

Not anymore…

They tried really hard to get people to call her “Talon”… never caught on with the characters or the fans.

I actually like Daken a lot as a character. He’s openly bi-sexual with a really fun “friendship” with The Human Torch. I don’t know if they meant to do this but he’s got a very Hannibal Lecter style to him (subtract cannibalism, add overt sexuality). I’d be fine with them continuing on a redemption path for him, but they still need to keep the irrational hate for his father–like Daken won’t kill an innocent person unless doing so would eff with his dad.

So what happened to X’s 1 through 22?

One of them was Wolverine himself, I’m pretty sure. They’re not all adamantium-claw-fast-healing types-- They’re pretty much whatever mutants and other metahumans the Canadian government was able to get their hands on and experiment with.

Yeah, her name comes from being in the Weapon X program. Originally, Wolverine was the Weapon X - as in the letter - but it was later retconned to be X as in 10, the roman numeral. It’s all a bit muddled since “Weapon X” was also a whole program who included other people like Sabretooth, Deadpool, Silver Fox, Sauron, etc. But Grant Morrison later retconned it to be “Weapon Plus” which kept coming up with new Weapons before and after Wolverine.

But as for a list of the “known” Weapons, it’s currently:

  • Weapon I: Captain America
  • Weapon III: the Skinless Man (currently a villain in Uncanny X-Force)
  • Weapon X: Wolverine
  • Weapon XII: Huntsman (revealed and killed during Grant Morrison’s run)
  • Weapon XIII: Fantomex (created by Morrison, currently starring in Uncanny X-Force)
  • Weapon XIV: the Stepford Cuckoos (created by Morrison, hanging around Utopia)
  • Weapon XV: Ultimaton (last seen guarding a clone Apocalypse for Fantomex)

Well, Daken’s dead now, so…

I don’t think that’s right. I think X-23 was completely separate from the Weapon Plus program.

IIRC–She was the 23rd embryo built up from Wolverine’s DNA.

…this is comics? He’ll be back.

It’s actually Weapons 0 thru 22 who came before her - she was created as part of Weapon Plus, not Weapon X.

The X-23 designation is presumably just to connect her to Daddy Logan.

Known Weapons (List from Wikipedia):

Weapon I - Captain America
Weapon VII - Nuke
Weapon X - Wolverine
Weapon XII - The Huntsman
Weapon XIII - Fantomex
Weapon XIV - the Stepford Cuckoos
Weapon XV - Ultimaton
Weapon XVI - Allgod
Weapon XXIII - X-23

(My X-Men reading is spotty, and I’d never heard of Huntsman, Ultimaton, or Allgod before.)

(The Weapon Plus program was originally international, and Weapon X eventually spun off into its own agency, which eventually got sucked into the Canadian government. It’s…confusing.)

Popular characters come back. Daken was very much not a popular character.

From wikipedia-

That would be the best comic character ever. I am so on-side with this.

(italics added) All we know is that Wolverine’s son is…The Stig.
