Whoops, I forgot to watch Kingpin last night

I was going to give it a chance, but I forgot to watch it. We watched “American Dreams” as usual, but then Law & Order: Criminal Intent came on, and we fled from the TV. The last time I saw a few seconds of that one I had to induce vomiting to recover.

Anyway, I got distracted and forgot to turn the TV back on for Kingpin. Did I miss anything? The reviewers seemed to like it OK.

It was pretty good. Seems to be going the right way for a good series. Not sure how accurate it is since I’m not the head of a drug cartel but it seems the situations are fairly plausible, a Kingpin trying to hold his empire together while leading a normal family life. Writing was good and the actors were convincing. I’m going to keep watching.

Is anyone else thinking The Sopranos but with Colombians instead of Italians?

What confused me was that it was aired in an hour, with “limited commercial interruptions”. But the way that it was cut, it looked like they had intended it to be shown over two hours. Like a scene would end dramatically, and there would be a fade to black. It seemed like they would put commercials there, but they didn’t. They just faded back in and kept going. Could they not sell all the advertising for a two-hour extravaganza? That would be a bad omen.

Exactly what it is but its better because its not on cable and I can watch it.

And yeah, it seemed to me that the pilot was originally much longer but they cut it down to an hour for some reason.

The lead actor was on the Today show on Friday and was asked about the comparison to The Sopranos. He acknowledged the similarities and that his show would never have been made if the Sopranos hadn’t been such a big hit. He said the main difference was in the character development. I may have gotten it backwards, but I believe he said that Tony Soprano was originally shown as a bad guy, and the viewers slowly learn of his good qualities, while on Kingpin the lead seems like a nice guy at first, and we slowly see how ruthless he can be.

The gringa wife is by far the scariest character on the show.

Scary as in ruthless or scary looking? Because both are right.

I saw it. It was pretty good, I thought. The next episode is Tuesday night, BTW. Wasn’t it billed as “brought to you by the people who made The Sopranos”? That would make any comparisons almost compulsory.

They should have kept it on Sundays. Law & Order: CI was a good lead-in show for it.I’ll probably never remember that it’s on on Tuesday and completely forget about it unless I make it a point to watch it.
