Whoops -- I took a Zoloft by accident!

I laid out my pills (Entex for sinus allergies and Aleeve for a headache) and also my daughter’s 25 mg. of Zoloft. Now the Zoloft is gone and I think I must have scooped it up and taken it along with mine. Should I call poison control, or is 25 mg. of Zoloft too small an amount to hurt me?

If it doesn’t hurt your daughter, I doubt it would hurt you.

If it’s a one-a-day antidepressent, those usually take two weeks or so before you get any effect anyway, so don’t worry.

IANA doctor, so if someone with more info says otherwise, listen to them and not me.

IANA MD. While 25 mg. of Zoloft probably won’t do more than give you possible mild side effects, you should probably call Poison Control or your doctor in case you have an allergy to medicine of this kind, or in case there’s an interaction between it and some other Rx you take.

As long as you’re not taking something like sumatriptan (Imitrex), or other serotonergic drug, you’ll be fine. Relax.

and if you can’t relax keep taking the Zoloft. It will help

The prescribed dosage of Sertraline HCl (Zoloft) runs from about 20 mg to 200 mg, so you would have taken close to the minimum dosage anyways. Beyond that, as long as you aren’t taking a MAOI (which you aren’t according to your OP) the only thing you would have to be aware of is that you may have a stronger reaction to depressants such as alcohol and pain killers. Just keep that in mind if you go out drinking tonight and you should be fine.

I made a similar mistake after my wisdom tooth operation when, in my hydrocodone-induced lethargy, I consumed one of my father’s 100mg Zolofts instead of my antibiotic (which were sitting on the same shelf). It pretty much knocked me out for a few hours and I was a little loopy for the next 4 or so, but I felt much better the next morning. I’m sure that compared to that you have nothing to worry about.

I lived. I was going to call poison control because I take Allegra and wanted to make sure there would be no interaction. However, I got distracted and didn’t get around to it – maybe the Zoloft made me too relaxed to keep worrying about it? I completely forgot about it untul we went to get in the hot tub and my husband offered me a beer. Then I remembered (and refused the beer – just in case). Anyway, I never had any symptoms of any kind so I’m sure it’s all good.

Thanks everyone!
