No. But then again, those sort of origin nuts and bolts are the least interesting story to tell, in my view. In the same vein, I deeply appreciated that the wonderful Children of Men didn’t explore why women could no longer bear children in the future. Instead we were shown the effect of that “big idea” on the world - which is much more dramatically rich and potent.
I enjoyed the premier. Nothing ground-breaking, but very well done for what it was. I have no idea where it is going, but I was intrigued enough to set a series program on the DVR. As for the backstory, I can see it going either way: tell us why/how it all happened, or don’t. Two different approaches, but both have their advantages.
Also: I’m a big believer that Movie=Short Story, and TV Series=Novel. Since most zombie works to date are movies, and therefore equivalent to short stories, I’m looking forward to the long form.
I don’t buy this comparison at all. TV Series = Book Series.
I’ve never been a fan of zombie stuff at all. But I enjoyed this show a lot. The “Wake up after everything’s gone to hell” idea was a new to me.
I don’t think the premise can be maintained as a tv series, however. A miniseries would probably have been better.
Aren’t zombies rotting? If so, how long would it take for them to fall apart to harmlessness?
Although not canon for The Walking Dead, Max Brooks’ The Zombie Survival Guide explains zombies’ hardiness as a function of the the virus which reanimated them in the first place. The zombie virus severely retards the bacterial and chemical activities which cause an uninfected corpse to decompose. An animated zombie can exist for quite a while if not otherwise destroyed, although they will eventually decompose to the point of inactivity. Eventually. To specifically answer your question, I believe Brooks states that in ideal conditions a hardy zombie could last for decades.
Zombies are even active under water for extended periods in some parts of the world, although I believe it’s stated that they won’t last quite as long as their dry-land brethren.
As to the OP: I loved the show and am looking forward to the rest of the season.
The whole hospital scene was incredibly creepy
