Who's got a dog? Woof woof!

Like porcupine says. There are plenty of purebreed rescue groups out there, and you can even find them in a shelter as well. Both of my dogs are rescues, and they’re great. I like to think that they know I gave them a second chance.

So, we established the 2 hounds. Grizzly just turned 13, and he’s half Akita / half Shepherd. He is almost a ringer for “Duke”, the dog you’ve no doubt seen on commercials. (Dogs Love Trucks, and the current one where he drinks the guy’s slurpee when he goes in the store). Grizzly is 90 pounds of very possessive dog. Hey, he loves Daddy, what can I say? Talents? Well, he’s getting old now, but he did the standard run of dog tricks in his prime. His best talent now is sleeping. Oh, and he’s a champion farter in his old age, too. Thanks, buddy.

Duke is about 1 1/2, and I plucked him off of death row last year. He’s a yellow lab / shepherd mix, and he has a face that will make you say all kinds of mushy things. He’s also 90 pounds, but it’s solid doggie muscle. His talent is mostly being a dope, and sneaking up behind me and poking his cold wet nose wherever I have exposed skin. Thanks, buddy.

Both the dogs love the cats, and vice versa. I’m lucky. I’d hate to have to try and clean cat blood out of my carpet.

I have pictures, and I’ll get them online one of these days.

My dog Banjo, a German Shepherd with a little Lab, is thecutest little bugger i’ve ever seen. 30lbs (soon to be 90), 5 months old and a bloody well brilliant, i swear.

He is aslo the lazyest, most well behaved pup i’ve ever seen. Paper traied 2 days after i got him (at 5 weeks old). His ears do this flop thing where one’s folded over and the other’s straight up and then he turns his head and god damn he’s a good dog.

His only failing is a strange foot fetish, i know dogs go for feat but he only goes wor women’s. he doesn’t even jump much but if a girl’s around he’s right after their feet, kinky little guy (i think he get’s it from me)

I wish i had a picture on here, but i’m still not that advanced…

1 & 2) I have a Norweigan Elkhound/Retriever mix, her name is Frances Bean, and this May, she’ll be 5 years old. I got her from one of those “Free Puppy” ads.

  1. I think she’s sentient, if that counts.

  2. It takes her about five minutes to learn a new trick. My favorite is Dead Doggy. I point my finger at her like a gun, and say BANG! She falls over on her back, and sticks all four feet up in the air.

She is very cat-like. She bats her toys around with her paws, and uses her paws to retrieve toys that have been lodged under furniture and rubs against your legs like a cat.

She’s incredibly affectionate. I love how she lays her head on your knee and looks up at me like I’m God, the President and Santa Claus all rolled into one. In the morning, after Hubby leaves for work, she jumps up in bed, and snuggles close, laying her head on my stomach. When I come home from work, or even from just going outside to get the mail, she greets me like I’ve been away for years. When she’s laying on the floor while I watch tv, she lays her foot on top of mine. She brings me socks. God knows where she gets them from (probably the hamper) and lays them on my lap. I always thank her, because I think, to her, it’s like bringing me a present. It can get embarassing when guests are over and in comes The Bean with a dirty sock in her mouth to offer me.

She’s well behaved. She’s never torn anything up, pooped on the rug, or bitten anyone who didn’t deserve it. She knows her commands in two languages, and never, ever drinks from the toilet.

She’s my baby, and I love her very much.

Bandit the Evil Dachshund, male, will be 2 years old on Feb. 1st.

1 - I gots me a dawg.

2 - Her name is Daisy-Bob. We got her at the pound. She was the most friendly “ooh pick me” of the bunch in the kennels. She’s probably about 2 1/2 yrs old, but we’re not quite sure. She is this shaggy salt-n-pepper terrier mutt type thing. Someone said she looked like she had a little Tibetan Terrier in her, but she’s a bit bigger than that - somewhere around 35 pounds.

3 - No real talents except for an uncanny knowledge of what’s going on. I never have to tell her to go into her crate, she just knows we’re planning on going out and retires in her little room all on her own. Oh, she sits, lays down, stays and comes, but that isn’t too strange now, is it.

4 - She is the most affectionate sweet natured dog I’ve ever known. She loves to wrestle with other dogs at the dog park and size of her adversary is no obstacle. On the street, she never goes nuts when she meets another dog, which I’m thankful for, except for the little rat-dogs accross the street. They do nothing but yip-yip-yip at anything that moves, and get’s my little Daisy all riled up.

5 - I didn’t get the digital camera I wanted for Christmas, so no linkety-link.

I have a 12/13 year old cocker spaniel named Lady. She likes to sleep alot, since shes getting old. She only sits in the front seat of the car when we go anywhere. She likes to sleep on the futon, and will holding dog biscuits in her mouth if you give her one before you leave the house, and won’t eat it until we get back home.

She’s been with me since I was 4/5, so I don’t really know what life is without my puppy:)

I have four dogs. Yes, it’s a bit excessive.
Buddy is 3.5, male, Cocker Spaniel, in the brown that they call buff. Got her my friends dogs litter.
Mikie is 3.5 female, Jack Russell crossed with something bigger. Got her from the pound as a friend for Buddy. Does a great job.
Molly is a mini Doxie, darker brown that usual. Female. About 5 years old. Got her from my mail route, after she was allowed to breed every time she came into heat. There were at least 40 dogs in the yard, her kids and grandkids and she was breeding with anyone and everyone.
Tatertot is my baby, a Yorkie about 9 months old. The dog I wanted since I was 13. He is male and as yet unneutered.
He makes as much noise as all the rest put together.

1 - Golden Retriever - male - 137 lbs. - “Shambee”. He was a rescue.

2 - Mini. Longhair Dachshund - male - 10 oz. “Fergus” -got him last week.

The Golden eats anything (obviously), makes a great door stop, snores, talks, understands “park, eat, car, ride, dinner, let’s go,sit, stand, stop, down, speak”, and “toy”.

The baby (he’s only 14 weeks old), doesn’t do anything except pee on the carpet. Oh, except when he runs, he kinda hops sideways, and looks like a cartoon dog, ears streaming behind.

I have two!

Britney is a salt and pepper miniature schnauzer. She’s about nine years old. She’s still very active, and is very, very cute. Over the last two years, she’s developed cataracts, and so she bumps into thing sometimes, and we think she’s doing deaf, but otherwise, she’s still spry and healthy. She likes to play, and will dance for treats, as well as sit, lay, and “go lay down”, and knows the phrases “want some water?”, “want some food?”, and “wanna go outside?” among others. Britney is about shin height and about 15 lbs, if that.

Reeses is a golden retriever (or something like that), and is named for the color of her coat, which is the exact same color as the peanut butter in Reese’s Pieces. She’s about, erm… I’d say three or four years old. I can’t remember. She’s extremely wiggly and puppy-like in nearly every way. I rarely see her (living in the frat house, now) so she gets all excited when I come home and jumps all over me and licks my face. She’s supposed to be an outside dog, but always runs inside and won’t go back out for an hour or so when I come home. She likes to eat other dog’s poop, and she tries to help take care of the sheep. She really doesn’t know much about anything, but then, we’ve never trained her. She’s about thigh height (I’m 6’1" or so), and about… hell… I dunno, 35 lbs?

We sorta have an unofficial dog, I call her “White Dog.” I don’t know what she is. Some kind of sheep dog, I suppose. She’s all white, and showed up one day. She stays around the sheep, and chases off anyone or anything that gets near them. I suppose that’s good, because we do have some big cats that prowl around the woods and hills. Mom gave up fighting her, and started feeding her, so she’s friendly to mom now. I figure she’s been beaten, because she will NOT let people get close to her, except for mom. She doesn’t get along with Reeses, but Britney likes her.

I had another dog when I was younger, Cocoa, but the story is depressing, and I don’t want to drag down an otherwise wonderful thread.

I got a dog too,
a poodle called Zack,
and he’s 10 years old.
He’s very playful and likes the snow too.
He can some trix like sit, crawl on the floor,
dance, bark on command, walk on his back-paws
and some other things too.
He’s a very good gard dog too.
He’s the best friend you can have.

Know the link worked for me,
your dog is so beautiful.

I have a three year old rott. Her name is Stay. She does do three things. Help me up off the couch, speak (only when she thinks I have food), and sit (again, if she thinks I have food). That’s pretty much it. She hates my cat.

My dog’s name is Iiko. Iiko Puppydog Boy. Iiko Kissylips Cuddlebug Hug-a-puppy Alldaybiscuit Boy.

He is an 11-year old Ibizan Hound from a show breeder. I have not yet gotten over the novelty of folks asking me what breed he is and admiring him. Even in his pooched-out slack neutered old age, he is quite stunning.

I took him to obedience classes for about 3-4 years. He does fetch; bring it here (I mentioned this in another thread); and will come, sit, or stand from hand signals. His funniest trait is that he knows the words peanut butter (it gets him into the house), biscuit, yummy (soft treats and especially cut-up hot dogs), and special crunchy treat (Liver Snaps and such like).

My next dog may not be a sighthound, because they generally are not good off-lead (I guess now we’ll hear from all the exceptions to this generality).
