Who's got the skinny on Val Kilmer?

I’ve seen several on this board say he’s got quite the rep for being difficult (to put it mildly). I’ve heard it said he’s not to nice to work with.

Anybody got specific tales to back this rep up? I’d like all you got.

And while we’re at it, what about Alec Baldwin?

I heard he was a Christian Scientist–whatever that may mean.

I heard a story (sorry no cite) that he kind of started losing it after playing Jim Morriosn in “The Doors”. Hey who wouldn’t? He’s playing “The Lizard King” and working for Oliver Stone!

I guess he was really a case during the filming of “The Island of Dr. Moreau”. Keep in mind he was working wih Brando who probably didn’t set too good of an example as well!

I think Val is an awesome actor, and I believe he completly submerges himself into his character, so his behaviour seems to pay off in the end.

MtM

A Christian Scientist is someone who doesn’t believe in using modern medicine. If you’re faith is strong enough, God will heal you of any ailment.

I’m sure someone will come along and correct me if I’m wrong.

Not to go too far off topic, but if you’ve seen Heat, what the hell is up with Val’s elbow?

It looks like he has a tennis ball implanted in there. Especially the scene in DeNiro’s empty apartment.

About Val’s Elbow

From Skin Conditions of the Stars:

The above example is in response to repeated e-mail about this soft appearing large protrusion on the elbow of actor Val Kilmer. While it is covered in dark makeup in this scene, it can also be seen elsewhere in “Heat” and in other Kilmer films. This most likely is an enlarged elbow (olecranon) bursa. The bursa is the membrane surrounding the elbow joint which can swell and fill with fluid. If this fluid sac becomes infected, it can require drainage and antibiotics. While this enlargement can be surgically reduced, it can often recur. Other conditions that can result in elbow bumps are rheumatoid arthritis and gout.

As for why he is a jerk…Dunno but its a real shame, think he is a fine actor when he wants to be (he was great in THE SALTON SEA)

Sigh…Oh to bring him back to the days when he was Chris in REAL GENIUS. God I loved him in that role. He made a smart guy cool.

Guess Circus of the Stars just wasn’t pulling down the ratings, huh?

By the way, thanks. I’ve always wondered about that.

Eew. I never noticed that honkin’ thing on his elbow. Very odd!

I gotta confess, I enjoyed most of all The Saint. Man, he was sexy in that movie. And him with Elisabeth Shue, well, hand me a fan, it’s getting warm in here.

Oh, his PR probably started this gossip about him being a difficult perfectionist way back when to make him look like a “serious” actor.

That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it. He can come over and tell me the real deal himself…anytime.

I heard he had quite the temper tantrum on the set of WONDERLAND.

You know, not being appreciated enough and stuff.

I’d sympathize with him if he’d actually made a decent movie in 15 years or so.

Good call on the elbow. That always kind of weirded me out and left me wondering. Did Val pitch in the minor leagues once upon a time or something?

Back to “The Doors” movie for a second, -so I’m not the only one who thought that whole movie was like a bad acid trip? See, I don’t get what’s so bad about “Natural Born Killers,” it’s just another classic Rodney Dangerfield comedy. But “The Doors”, now that was some freaked out shit, my friends. Especially the parts with the dude from “The Hills Have Eyes.” Anyone agree/disagree?

Val Kilmer=better than most, outstanding when compared to the likes of Tom Cruise.

Christian Scientist, I thought that was an oxymoron.

He did one w/ DeNiro and Pacino awhile back. IIRC he was pretty good in that.

sheesh…so I see now, yeah it was Heat

it’s gettin late, g-nite

I think he’s a fabulous actor, far better than the movies he’s typically in.

And I loved him in “True Romance.”

Why doncha ask Iampunha? Val’s his cousin.

Eh?

tigolebitties, real genius is my favourite val kilmer movie. i’m glad to see someone else likes it. when i saw it in theatr i was the only one in the theatr!

I’ve learned to try not to pay attention to the off screen antics/theatrics/hysterics of actors I like. Or it ruins their work for me.

I liked The Saint, except for Elizabeth Shue. The highlight was him in all the different characters.

He stole Wyatt Erp ( or whatever the title was)Tombstone as Doc Holliday.

And lest we forget the teeth chomping scene as Iceman in Top Gun.
