Who's job to empty pockets?

And if the laundry-doer is me, I keep whatever I want out of what I find. Scored myself $52.73 and a nifty marble doing laundry one day! Wheee!

This was my mother’s solution. It was also accompanied by the Ritual of the Gloating of the Laundry Do-Er. Especially if it was something we wanted.

Now that I’m the wearer & the do-er, I should go through my pockets. Sadly, I forgot a couple of days ago and washed my iRiver. Any suggestions for a cheap mp3 player?

The wearer, although for the purposes of machine safety the washer shares some bearance.

The more mature of the two.

I can’t believe nobody has said politicians yet.

Shared responsibility, with the exception that used tissues must always be taken care of by the wearer. When you have a cold, don’t make your launderer handle your snot.

wearer, with the acknowledgment of self-preservation on the doer’s part…

unless… the doer is in the habit of picking things up from non-standard locations. That is, anything that goes into the hamper should be cleaned by the wearer, but if the doer picks up from the doer’s ‘in use’ pile, then the doer should shoulder the responsibility. This assumes some level of parity between doer’s and wearer’s ‘in use’ pile habits.

My sentiments exactly.

I say the laundry doer. Yes, it would be nice if the clothes wearer could take care of it, but if they forget something, the laundry doer is in the perfect position to double check. Plus, if something (pen, lipstick, etc.) goes into the washer that could affect the clothes somehow, that’s the laundry doers ultimate responsibility, IMHO.

Of course, that also means that any change/bills that result from said double check automatically become the laundry doers property (call it a “tip” if you want).

The clothes wearer should empty his pockets before he puts them in the hamper, and the laundry doer should check the pockets before he puts them in the washer.
