I deleted and restarted Quiescent Flower. I’m going to try to finish all the quests before the disaster. I teamed with Jericho Storm (aka D_Odds). If someone in the CeCL guild wants to send me an invite, please do.
I’m still a Elementalist/Ranger, level 4. I’m planning on specializing in Energy Storage, Fire Magic, Beast Mastery and Air Magic, in that order. I have no idea if that’ll work, but it looks easy to respec. Is four attributes about what I should be working on?
I fixed my mouse problem. Turns out the drivers were old. I should’ve checked that first.
I finally picked this one up over the weekend and played with it for a good chuck of Sunday. It’s fun so far, though I haven’t been through the searing yet.
I am finding inventory management to be a problem; I can’t tell what I should be hanging on to and what I should leave behind. Is there any point in hanging on to your starting armor/weapon? I’ve got better now but the game won’t let me sell or salvage what I started with.
Can you get more than one inventory bag add-on? I’ve got the belt pouch from the guy outside of Ascalon. I tried getting a second one but the game won’t let me equip it.
What’s with the little girl outside the gate who wants to follow you around? Is there a quest associated with her that I haven’t figured out yet?
I’ve played with a couple of different character sets. The one I’ve settled on at the moment is a Ranger/Elementalist named Trevan Nightstrider. He’s at level 7 and has his saber cat; I’m mainly running him around just to pick up some more skills before I head for the searing.
You can get more bags but those are post-searing. You also get a storage bin post-searing, one that works for all your toons.
She does give you a quest item if you give her enough flowers but there doesn’t seem to be a quest associated with it (yet?).
We’re pretty random. I’ve discovered that it’s best I don’t play on a weeknight or else I’m up to at least midnight, which isn’t conducive for going to work in the morning.

I’m up to level 7, and have completed almost all the Pre-Searing quests. I even collected the stuff needed to buy armor upgrades from the various collectors. I even traded dyes I found to color everything a nice yellow. I’ll be heading Post-Searing sometime soon.
I keep everything I find. When my inventory is full, I head to the nearest town to sell the loot. Blue items I identify, but I dont bother to salvage anything, unless it says “highly salvageable”. It’s not cost effective otherwise. I’ve managed to save up a good bit of money, one unit of whatever is larger than gold (I think it’s worth 1000g).
And as to dying, especially in pre-searing: it’s a waste. If indeed you are getting enough salvaged stuff pre-searing and saving it all (and you’ll only need two or three crafting materials anyway), that pre-searing armor will be dropped (if we’re talking the default newbie armor) or sold (if we’re talking the pre-searing collectors pieces) as soon as you get to post-searing. If you saved those dyes (and I’m guessing to get all yellows you traded some more valuable blues, reds, purples, greens to do it), you could have sold them for 200 to 600 gold per pop, depending on how much you want to play the ever-fluctuating dye markets. Oh, and it depends a lot on your character type. Elementalists will have some change in their armor color from dyes, but they’re not the most dramatic (that goes to the monks and necros), but far from the least (damned Warrior armor). Personally, I don’t dye a darned thing, and probably won’t change even if I do play enough for 15k armor. Helps your income when one dye will give you enough gold upon selling for an expert salvage kit instead of a purple hat.
lol, now you do for future characters. My first few were hideously rainbow-attired pimps upon entering the academy. Then I wised up, stopped even caring about getting any of the pre-searing collector armor. Once you get a decent character or two (I have two around lvl14), and you stash a decent bit of gold and crafting material in your storage box, you’ll just outfit your characters with the best that post-searing Old Ascalon has to offer as soon as you get there.
I see this thread is still alive, so I can add to it.
Me and the SO’s computers are on a LAN, so we picked this up yesterday and started playing. We’re loving it, it’s everything for our needs…an online game with no fees that we can play together.
I read through the thread and there’s some good advice here, so even though I didn’t ask for it myself…thanks!
Purples and blues are actually fairly cheap, Post-Searing. Maybe 250-300 gp a pop. I’ve got a lone black dye that I’m saving for retirement purposes
I also seem to get a large number of dye drops anyway. More than most of my friends get, it seems. In storage, I’ve got something like 9 green, 5 blue, 2 red, 6 yellow, 3 silver, 1 black, 4 purple, and 5 orange. And that’s after using 4 yellow, 4 orange, 6 blue (I tried dying my necro’s scar a couple times…the results where un ugly green scar…) and 4 purple to dye various outfits for various characters.
I just deleted my Elementalist/Mesmer last night and started up a new Mesmer/??. I’m probably going to go with necro as a secondary profession, and load up on hexes. Between the Mesmer hexes and the Necro hexes, he should be a veritable Voodoo priest!
My character count currently stands at 17th level Necro/Monk, 15th level Warrior/Elementalist, 13th level Monk/Mesmer, and the newbie 4th level Mesmer.
Check out the dye trader every time you go into and out of the game. You’ll see blues fluctuate anywhere between 200 and about 750 to buy from trader. Best I’ve sold a blue for has been 600 (when it was about 700 buy from trader). People are dumb
I’ve got two characters post-searing now; Trevan Nightstrider (Ranger/Elementalist) and Moose N. Squirrel (Warrior/Necro; yes, I picked a silly name).
Last night I was playing Moose and got the “Defend the North Wall” quest (you know, the run for your life one). Three 20th levels invite me to join their group (I was 6). They said they would delay the critters while I ran for it at the end.
About halfway there the batteries in my cordless mouse die. I tell them about it but they keep going on and so I try to keep up as best as I can (I could only run sort of sideways at that point) while trying to find where I had put my spare batteries after I took them from the charger.
Well, the baddies attack and we get swarmed. I can barely move in a straight line and go down in about 5 seconds. The others last longer, the entire time cursing me for not running. I pointed out that I had told them about my mouse, so then they started insulting me for using a cordless. They booted me before I could leave.
So much for my first grouping experience in Guild Wars.
Those guys were idiots. The quest only requires that one team member make it back to the Wall, so the thing to do is have everybody run. The Charr can’t catch all of you unless you screw around like they did. You can solo it if your’re around level 7 or 8; in that case let your henchmen fall behind and get attacked.
I know this is a late reply, but is there still a CECL guild? I’d be interested in an invite for my toon, Thrayce Maleficarum, if anyone is still playing and/or paying attention to this thread.
I think the guild never really took off. I never joined (hoping that one of the early patches to the game would be allowing different guilds for different characters on the account), but added all members who posted their names on my friends list. I see one or two on consistently, but not much more.
I’m still on, but not part of CeCL. I actually joined a different guild for a short time, but the cape clashed with the outfits of all my characters There should be a toggle option to turn them on or off…
Yeah, I’m still playing too. Got two characters to level 10 and seem to have kinda stalled there. All of them have several missions to the west of Piken Square somewhere and I keep getting portions of my anatomy handed to me whenever I try them.
Tried a couple of pickup groups but… lets just say that none of them have worked out very well. (Has anyone in this game ever heard of “coordination”?) I’ve had better success with the NPC henchies…
So, I’m usually on as either Trevan Nightstrider (Ranger/Necro), Moose N Squirrel (Warrior/Elementalist) or Shyla Ranier (Necro/Elementalist). I keep restarting my fourth to try different combos.
