Who's reading Stephen King's new book, "Cell"?

I picked it up two or three days ago on an impulse. I like Stephen King’s short stories, like the ones in “Skeleton Crew” and “Four Past Midnight” but I had never read one of his full length novels.

And it’s actually better than I expected. I’m about 50 pages from being finished. It’s weird - as I’m reading it, I don’t get the feeling like I usually get with books I’m really into. If I really like a book, it’s like, “Yeah! This book is awesome!”

But this one…I don’t know. I like it more not while I’m reading it, but right after I’ve put it down. And you know how sometimes if you hear or read something kind of disturbing you get this not-quite-right feeling and you can’t figure out why?

Yeah. I’ve felt like that for about two days straight now. Damn book. It’s picking at my brain, and I don’t know why! Perhaps it’s because it isn’t panning out quite like I had expected.

Anyway, who else is reading this book? What were your thoughts?

I have read most of his novels and collections. I am a few chapters into it so far. Not his best, but not his worst either.

I did finish it, and I hesitate to get too specific about it, since you guys are still reading. I liked it though, and the actual story had little to do with it. I just enjoyed the characters, and “hearing” Steve’s “voice”. I’m just starting The Colorado Kid also.

There’s another thread. already.
I finished it in a day, it was a fun read, a bag of potato chips for my head.

Can I borrow this? I chose the book as one of my staff recommendations for this week and I’d like to put it on the card underneath.

Whoops! I even did a search to make sure that no one had started a thread about it already but apparently it didn’t find it, or I missed it!

Ah, that thread’s probably got spoilers, and I’m not that far in yet.

I picked it up because I was told it was really good. I haven’t read a new King in … I think the last one I read was Insomnia, which I thought was an excellent cure for the illness. (Black House doesn’t count somehow, but I’m not sure exactly why.) I’m liking Cell so far, though. It’s got that same King flow and feel and narrative without the tedium of description that used to bore me to tears.

Yeah.

Except for the first few pages with what I thought was clumsy and unnecessary description of damage to vehicles and buildings, I’m loving it.

I could use some more back story on the main characters, but then I’d be bitching about the book being too long.

I enjoyed the beginning, with things like Power Suit Woman and Pixie Light and Pixie Dark, because that’s how I think of people, quite often. I make up names for those around me. And then, suddenly, on like page four, zombies!!! Doesn’t get better than zombies on page four.
