Not only am I staying with a capital S, T, and A, I’m going to provide my first EVER SDMB-related Random Act of Kindness right now (aside from all that time I spent providing sunglass advice in that one thread).
I’m gonna pay for someone else’s subscription, for the first year at least. I know there are at least a few of you out there who really can’t afford $4.95, but spend as much time edumacating yourselves on the Boards as I do.
Catches:
You have to be somebody whose user name I recognise… not necessarily somebody I like, per se, but if I despise you your chances are not good.
I’d really prefer that it be somebody who’s genuinely broke, rather than someone who just doesn’t feel like forking out five bucks. Obviously I’m not going to go looking through your tax returns, so please be honest about it.
Since some of you will naturally be uncomfortable admitting that you’re broke, you can IM or e-mail me if you think you deserve the free subscription. I’m starting a thread in MPSIMS for the rest of you.
I might pay two or even three subscriptions if enough deserving people are asking. However, if I can’t decide who gets one, I might start asking other Dopers’ opinions in the request thread, so if you absolutely refuse to be mentioned, please let me know.
This is only my second post, but I’ve been lurking for over a year. I’m definitely staying - and paying. This board (as many others have mentioned) is heavily addictive!
Count me in. I get hours of enjoyment from this board each week and the cost is next to nothing. The same price as a DVD rental or almost half the cost of a cinema ticket. There’s no question here.
My life would be far less vibrant, and contain much less intellectual discourse on varied topics without this board. I would greatly miss the next story from Master Wang-Ka, and the next insight from Mercotan.
Plus, I want to see what the new “1920’s style death ray” looks like.
I guess I’ll be paying and staying, even though I’m unemployed. I’ve got a higher post count here than any other forum I’ve frequented. Most forums have specific topics, and you can only stick with them so long before things start repeating. The variety of topics here keep me interested
But… I thought all you left-wingers around here would be raising a stink about having to pay
Absolutely. How much I post goes through phases (at the moment I seem to be going through one of the ones where I actually do post), but I’m an avid reader of the board. I’m in principle trying to save money at the moment, but $5 is certainly within my annual entertainment budget and this board is more than worth it. At the end of the year, we’ll see. A lot can change in a year, and who can say how the character of the boards will be affected.
