Sigh, I guess I’m one of the few who wont be paying. I could pay but I just don’t want to. I’m pretty sure I’ll be lurking though. I do feel sad though. The end of an era.

I don’t post all that often, and I was among those who was a little scared to open a thread that stated that SDMB would be going to pay. However, $5 is nothing to be able to learn new things daily.
I will definately be staying.
For those who do not have plastic, you may be able to find prepaid Visa and Mastercard cards at Wal-Mart, K-Mart, or similar stores. You hand them cash; the clerk hands you a charge card with the money loaded up on the electronic strip. The card comes with a valid 16 digit ID number and can be used at a register or over the internet.

The IGen mastercard is sold at Rite Aid. **Even the under 18 crowd can get one. ** You have to pay I think a $10 activation fee, then $4.95 for reload and $4.95 a month (yes I know it is expensive, but not as much as some out there) and it works like a debit card. Good idea I think.
I guess I’ll be leaving. I have plenty of money, but I’m one of those paranoid people that can’t buy anything over the internet. And I don’t own a credit card.
I’ve also never, ever mailed a letter. Getting the correct number of stamps and converting Canadian money into U.S.A. money in one of those mail order things seems kind of complicated. I’d also have to find the post office. Paypal would have been nice but I keep reading the faq and getting all confused at the different rates international customers have. I’m not registered at any banks, just a “caisse populaire” so I don’t think I can get a subscription at paypal’s anyway.
If there was a “straight dope message board” stand at the shopping center, I’d pay the full membership price, no problem. I don’t even need the discount.
I’ll try lurking but it’ll be kind of sad without my beloved search function. If the search button remained activated, I’d have no problems. It’s not like I’ve posted very often. Still, I feel kind of sad. Maybe I’ll try again in a few years?

Yeah, I’m going to pony up and stay. Not because anyone flirts with me (no one has, sadly), and not because anyone would really miss me if I didn’t stay. But I have some good reasons to stay. Reasons like

I am… Though if this were a pay site when I came upon it I would’ve never joined, I would’ve never learned so much, and I would not have nearly as many great friends. I feel sorry for those who will skate past the opportunity to even sample the boards once they see they’ll have to pay at some time.

I also don’t have a credit card. I can most definately afford the $5US, but no credit card, no pay pal. Maybe someone can help me out eh? I mean, I’ve spend hundred of dollars to travel and see my favourite bands, I can certainly afford this, so if anyone wants to help out a fellow 'Doper, I also have a crisp (well, more like wrinkly) five waiting right here. I seriously love the SDMB. It’s the only message board that doesn’t make my brain rot.

Fare thee well. I’m afraid my time here is coming to an end. I don’t devote enough time here to pay. It’s been fun, and I only hope I find another message board with people as awesome as you guys… though I have a sneaking suspicious that isn’t happening.
