It had more to do with the origins of the English language (which is Germanic) & the Early immigrants , as well as the Vaterland play on words, most of which has already been mentioned & cleared up my ignorance… thanks!
It was a virgin birth.

The Netherlands. After all, old New York was once New Amsterdam. Why they changed it, who can say?
Start the testing with George Washington then Ben Franklin and move through rest of the 56! delegates that signed the Declaration of Independence.
Darth Vader?
People just liked it better that way.
The pool guy.
How can that be right? That’s Gelderland…
Maybe she’s a hermaphrodite and impregnated herself.
I wasn’t really joking with this comment. America is not just Euro-lite, and a lot of that is due to the massive impact of the transatlantic slave trade on our early history.
OK, what do you think?
I agree on the African influence. Here in Texas, there’s also the influence of Mexico–or New Spain.
One Mom & One Dad is a bit simplistic. Unorthodox families are nothing new!
Napoleon is the father of our country - he screwed Mother England good!
It’s true, England has been “invaded” (wink, wink) by so many different countries during her existence. Even the English language is a mutt … a hopeless mishmash of Latin, French, German, etc., all thrown in by whoever was shacking up with England at the time.
“The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don’t just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.” (James Nicoll)
Matriotic?
That sounds like… I dunno, a feminist cyberpunk novel by a pre-op Lana Wachowski. Or something.
This is the correct answer. France was the midwife. The founding fathers were well-schooled in the classics. Washington considered himself a modern Cincinnatus, which, indeed he was, and our laws, though based upon English common law, were heavily influenced by Roman History and representative governance, as was Latin used in medicine, also. Ancient Rome was America’s father, to the extent parentage can be conferred to the US. Greece may have fooled around with lady liberty, earlier on, too. But there was no National Enquirer or NY Post then, so we’ll never really know.
“Correct Answer” ???
There is no “correct answer”.
Have they tried DNA testing yet?
Sort of. English is a Germanic language with tons of French & Latin influence.
