Why all the paranoia about China but not India?

Yes, of course potentially India could do the same. Except that is even more decades in the future than the prospect of China’s economy being larger than the US. There are dozens of countries that could change course and pursue economic, political, or military goals that would cause intense concern in the United States. Maybe in a couple of decades we’ll be talking about the threat posed by Indonesia or Catalonia or the New Confederate States of America.

But India isn’t making the easily-frightened piss their pants the way China is making them piss their pants because China is much richer than India and therefore has a lot more money to pour into making trouble. Of course, China also has a powerful authoritarian central government which means worrying abrupt changes in policy can be imposed from the top down. But democratic countries can go off on wild adventures too as long as the citizenry are persuaded, you may have heard of a country called Iraq.

Are you saying the Iraqi government was democratic? Or that the US government was on a wild adventure? That’s not the same; the US has always been a hegemon.
