Why am I getting frequent Facebook friend requests from people I don't know?

Several times a week, I get Facebook friend requests from people I don’t know, whom I don’t think I share any groups with, and I’ve certainly never met in real life. What gives? And what’s the scam?

Are you sure you’re not friends of their friends? Nice username btw.

There are quite a few possibilities:

If you have a common name, you may get a lot of mistakes.

If you have a lot of fb friends, then you have potentially millions of friends of friends, and may be getting a lot of those requests.

Or maybe there is something about your profile that is particularly appealing to scammers. I get a lot follows on IG from “attractive young women who are looking for a serious relationship” with an older man.

There was a thread in IMHO about fb requests from people you don’t know. I actually accept quite a few of these, and have gotten to know some nice people from other parts of the world.

Just got a friend request from Bulgaria.

Seems to be another Clivia grower, so probably OK.

Do you find any similarities amongst these otherwise seemingly random requests? Are you a middle-ish aged man? Are these mostly attractive women? Take a glance at her friends list, if its available. What do you see? A bunch of dudes, similar to yourself? Just look for similarities in her friends. Im guessing these are spam/porn bots.

They can get quite creative too. Yes, mostly they are all still women who "look the part, so to.speak but these ad-profiles, they’re alive man! They evolve, they respond! If you never give the hot pornstar girl any attention, well, maybe you’ll like this one with the girl-next-door look. Yea she’s got a few pounds to lose but she’s super into cocks!

Tldr, just know you will never meet, talk to.or actually engage with these women in any way whatsoever. Because they don’t exist. You’re more likely interacting with Olaf from Ukraine. I enjoy messing with em, making em say over the top sexual things…haha. it’s totally Olaf from Ukraine at the other end.

Do not discount the possibility of fraud. Go to their Facebook page and see how long it has been up and who that person’s friends are…and I don’t just mean the names. If they can con people from all walks of life to “friend” them, fraudsters will seem more legit.

What do you mean by “fraud” exactly? Would it be fraud to get this dude to buy porn by sweettalking him into it using the photo of a gorgeous knockout 19 year old swimsuit model?

I think the fraudulent ones are the most hilarious ones of all… These are the types that also feature knockout 19year olds in thongs on the profile pic (but never-any-other-pics-anywhere). Now if you are an Instagram model-type and you want to.show off your body to.the world, how likely is it to have zero pics other than your profile?

Another key defining feature of the fraudulent profiles is, despite the woman dressed and looking like a pornstar, somewhere prominently displayed on her profile page will have her !adamantly! proclaiming that she is looking for true love, a serious relationship. She’s not into the games. This will ALWAYS ALWAYS be there. They want to attract a guy (so she looks like a pornstar) but also think he actually has a chance with her because she’s not into the superficial stuff like sex and looks.

It can be anything from “sure thing” investments to fake charities to fake romance to…ghod knows what. The “good” news is that, if this is at the beginning stages, you may not be the one the con is aimed at-You are merely an unwitting part of the con. When/if enough people “friend” the fraudster, the original friends from other countries are dropped and the fraudster’s Facebook page seems to be totally legit.
