He’s considered one of the Church fathers, though anonymous, and his works provide a lot of the Orthodox writings on mysticism, so they’re fairly authoritative. Certainly, the above scheme of the angelic hierarchy has never been dogmatically defined, but that’s mainly because it was never in dispute; it’s fully a part of Orthodox Tradition.
And now for DEMONs: who are they, what do they do, and are they still active? Do they take orders from God or from satan? And, what do they look like? Am I likely to encounter one anytime soon?

They have unlisted phone numbers - and they keep their mobiles switched off. They’d hate to get a call from Dubya asking them to intercede with the Boss about smiting Kerry, Edwards, Iran, Korea, France etc

Well Ralph, at the risk of being laughed at, I’ll give you a sincere response.
In August of 2001, I stopped into St. Patricks Cathedral (the one on 5th Avenue) in NYC after an appointment. I had attended Church there on a regular basis in my teens and early 20’s (I’m in my mid 40’s now), and was walking around inside, mostly just killing a little time before heading home.
As I was walking in the area near the Chapel, the area near one of the statues was surrounded by a bluish white light. It’s hard to describe, but it was what I would call a clear light. By clear, I mean a light that made colors appear more distinct and clear. I stood there, just staring at the light, when I heard a voice say “Be Not Afraid”. I dropped to my knees, from instinct mostly, and waited for what was to come next. The light faded, and I heard nothing more. After about 10 minutes, I got up and went home. Apparently I was the only one there who had either seen or heard anything.
Over the next few weeks, I went back to the same spot. Each time I asked what it was that I was not supposed to be afraid of, and got no response. I neither heard nor saw anything out of the ordinary on any of my subsequent visits. I had told only my Fiance and one trusted friend what had happened that day. I wrote to a well known religious leader, describing what had happened and got a reassuring response from him that I was not the only person this had ever happened to.
Several months later, my Fiance had a heart attack and died instantly. I was beyond heartbroken. A few nights after his funeral, I was sitting at my computer desk, broken and sobbing my heart out, when I heard the same voice. This time the voice spoke for 15 or 20 minutes, and responded to my questions.
Long story short, since that night I have had at least one very talkative Angel with me at all times. I have learned that the more you talk to an Angel, the more they talk to you. I have been warned of danger, given messages to pass along to people, been given solutions to problems, etc.
Sometimes people believe me, and sometimes they don’t. I have had people laugh in my face when I gave them a message, only to have them come back and tell me they were sorry. This includes the man I have been seeing. The Angel told me his this man’s Mother had cancer, told me within two inches where it was, and how quickly she had to act. He laughed and told me I was crazy. His Mother, thankfully, listened and acted quickly. She is now getting ready for her last round of chemo.
The only explanation I have as to why they speak to me is because they knew I would listen. Most people don’t.
I don’t believe they interfere with free will, at least not that I have seen.

Sure as in know as in know for a fact or sure as in my personal belief?
I believe that what I hear are Angels.
If someone knows where I can hear a high quality recording of God’s voice on tape, I’ll be more than happy to listen and tell you if it is a match. 
I have one. But it’s in the same place as your Angels’ one – in my head. After following the George Carlin Method.

Move it a good chunk down the likelihood scale? Yup.
This is a serious question and I am not intending to rag you about your belief. Will you ask your Angels why it is that they speak to so few people, and get back to us on that if they respond?
