Why are fashions for heavy women so ugly?

I Love Coldwater Creek! Their main store ( at least, I think its their main store) is here in Seattle.
I’ve also had good luck at Bon-Macy’s I’m not sure about other Macy’s+some-other-store-they-gobbled-up, but “Woman’s World” was the Bon-Marche’s plus size department before Macy’s took over, and they’ve left it intact. Nordstrom has a small, but nice large size dept. Their clothing is cut larger, so those on the cusp can often find things in the regular departments.

This is amazing! The store is less than a mile from my house! I’d never noticed it. I’m going shopping!

The other thing I have noticed while shopping online or in a dept store. Is how they make the average sized (retailers call this 0-14) clothes with JUST THE THINGS WE PLUS SIZED WOMEN WANT. For example flaw hiding details on the material…such as layers or strategically place SOFT ruffles, that covers up belly and back bumps. Yet designers make plus sized clothes that are form fitting and tight at the belly and back side. JUST THE OPPOSITE OF what plus sized women actually need/want. I dont understand it…there’s a HUGE (no pun intended) market out there, in search of attractive flattering plus sized clothes. If I had some $$ to start a shop of my own, I could make millions very easily. And it seems as if there is one style out there for a plus sized person, in no matter what it is, whether a bathing suit (o gawd, that’s a whole other can of worms there), or a shirt/pants, then ALL the stores carry that exactly same piece, in the same color, style etc. What is wrong with these designers, they don’t wanna use up their fabrics? What?, people would PAY upwards for a nice selection /piece of plus sized clothing. O well, I guess they (designers) will just continue to contribute to societies portrayal of plus sized women being unattractive no matter what. SO sad.

I know this is a zombie thread, but I’ve always suspected the designs of plus-sized clothing were made by people who hate fat women and want to punish them. There isn’t another sane explanation for things like giant floral prints that look like 70s era couch covers.

For those in the UK or anywhere in the EU I highly recommend Duo for boots. Most styles are orderable by foot size, width and calf measurement. I have two pair I love and adore but I can never order more. I’m in Canada and I was unaware of the extent of the import taxes I would pay when I picked them up thus making them MUCH more expensive that I expected. My oh so great deal of basically custom boots for $100/pr turned into almost $250/pr. Yes, more for duty and taxes than the boots cost.

As an aside, one thing I admire about smart women is their fashion sense, whether they’re heavy or stick-like. Quite simply, they know how to look sexy. Clothes that’s complement their bodies, shoes that make their legs look hot, understated make up, etc.

I’ve been plus-sized and I’ve been regular sized and I’ve never figured out why manufacturers of clothing for larger women insist on frills, ruffles, shiny fabric or any of the other additions which only draw attention to one’s size. All that extra crap can make an overweight woman look a lot bigger than she is.

Wow… for a second there, I thought Newport News was a larger women’s clothing store, and wondered how they got away with using a shipyard name for that.

Glad to see it’s just a Spiegel line.
