Why are gecko's droppings black with white tip?

I’m wondering about the contrast in colors. How does the digestion process work in geckos? FYI, my observation is based on the common house gecko.

Think of it as very similar to bird poop. Excretion is done via a single opening, the cloaca, and is combined. So the white bit is the urine component in the form of concentrated uric acid crystals. The dark stuff is the fecal matter.

Thank you. Make sense, but actually I’ve never seen a bird poop in original form. All of them are splashed all over the place.

Visit someone who keep chickens. I’m sure you can inspect some without splashing.

Thank you for this answer! I have always wanted to know why bird “poop” was white when they did not eat anything white in nature. Now I know the white part is bird pee!

SOME bird poop is white. The ducks and geese that live by my creek have green poop, and goose poop is relatively solid.

Now I’m wondering which part of the thing goes out 1st when the animal does the job, the white tip or the black body? Why do they have to be attached to each other? What’s the reason behind the need to excrete all in 1 ‘sitting’?

Mother Nature probably does it in such a way as to create the least mess, least discomfort for the bird, and least chance of attracting predators.
