Why are Hulu.com commercials so low-res?
The shows themselves always stream fine, but the commercials are often very low resolution. it’s really noticeable on a 1080p monitor, but even at 1200x800 on my laptop it’s terrible as well.
Whats the reason for this? bandwidth? Are the commercial makers clueless and upload the low-res videos to hulu?
I watch Hulu on a computer hooked up to a 46" TV and I have never noticed what you describe. The advertisements look the same as the shows.
Are you streaming through dedicated devices or a PC? if Hulu is anything like Netflix, the quality seems to be a little lower for the web clients.
I don’t think it’s my web connection as I get 25+ mbits, and i’m hard wired. So wireless isn’t the issue either.

Quality would be like this, @ 240p setting. Sometimes worse.
That’s weird. This example doesn’t look that terrible to me either. It certainly isn’t high-res but it is completely watchable on my TV hooked up my computer with a decent but older graphics card and a 25 mb/s cable connection. That link looks washed out to me and the printing isn’t clearly defined but it looks as good as many regular TV commercials do. No regular viewer would comment on what I am seeing.
“Washed out”? “Printing not defined”? That image looks extremely pixelated and is worse than what you’d see if you tried to watch an SD channel on your HDTV. If you think that’s normal. I’d suggest you have your TV hooked up wrong.
