Why are most Japanese................

When this question came to mind I thought that the answer might have something to due with the paucity of Japanese immigrants and that korean food wasn’t so popular. Thanks for all the great responses.

Cheers,

Mimi!

Similar thing in the UK with Indian restaurants. They are always run by Bangladeshi’s. I think the reasons are the same as explained by hapaXL.

I have good friends who are Laotian and own a Thai restaurant. When I asked them why they gave me the following reasons:
1- Thai food is known while Laotian food is not, thus it’s easier not only to get a market but a bank loan for a Thai restaurant
2- Thai is a much prettier language than Laotian, considered the “French” of southeast Asia
3- Many Thai and Laotian dishes are very similar, but many Laotian dishes could never be eaten by an American digestive system because they are too spicy (even Thai has to be taken down a few notches)
4- Thai food features many more ingredients well known to American diners than Laotian food and is cheaper to cook

Let me tell you how much this cheeses me off: a lot! (what, you’d think i’d go off on some big rant???)

I am actually tired of people warning me about “spicy” food that is so bland styrofoam tastes hotter. I WANT to eat food so hot it burns my stomach and kills my intestines (figuratively). But i can’t because the rest of America is lame. So, America, be less lame!!

No matter what kind of ethnic restaurant you visit in Chicago, if you go into the kitchen I guarantee you’ll find nothing but Mexicans.

Oh. Dear.

You’ve never had their shoyu pork?!? Food of the GODS. Auwe!

HAHAHA, yes, the marinated spam makes up for it.

Dear Tars Tarkus,

At present I live in Germany and it is even worse here. I cannot get anything very spicy. I started asking for “spicy” and got something with barely a kick. Then I tried “really spicy” and was still disappointed. The last thing I tried was “very, very spicy. I want it hot. I am not a German!” LOL, I think I will just start bringing jalapenos or something with me when I go out to eat.
