Why are my hands so dry?

I can not figure this minor annoyance out. I live in Chicago, so there is a decent amount of humidity. I drink 8-10 glasses of water a day. I have used lotion on my hands several times a day for the past couple of weeks. Yet, my hands are peeling like mad. I don’t use any harsh soaps, in fact I’ve been avoiding as much soap as possible the past couple of weeks when the peeling started.

Change your lotion? Maybe you’re having a reaction to one of the ingredients in it.

You could be developing a skin condition like psoriasis. It could also just be that you’re naturally more susceptible to dryness in that area than anywhere else (like how foot dryness runs in my family, but my hands are totally fine). You can try some super-moisturizing techniques like slathering your hands in vasoline and putting on a pair of white gloves overnight.

You might also want to ask your doc about it and get a referral to a dermatologist, though.

Self-abuse is catching up with you.

It sounds like more than just dryness. You could have an allergy to something that you work with or clean with. Your best bet is to see a dermatologist, who can do patch testing to see what you could be allergic to.
