Why are people in New York City so unhappy (according to a reputable study)?

I’ve read a few articles about unhappiness in big urban areas, and I suspect it’s largely due to the inhabitant’s disposable income more than anything else.

As I said here, I live better in flyover country than a multi-millionaire in NYC.

That’s assuming those things are appealing to everyone, however. Thousands of acres of land holds zero appeal for me. Absolutely none. And in guessing most people who do cover vast acreage don’t move to NYC.
