According to recent news accounts, the Democrats, especially Sen. Biden(D-Del) are incensed that Rumsfield briefed a Senate Committee in the morning without bothering to tell them that CBS would be running the Sixty-Minutes-II show that evening that featured the Iraqui prison abuse photos.
According to today’s news accounts, G. W. Bush, the CINC, also first heard about this through news accounts.
So if the Democrats have access to the exact same information sources as the Pres, what’s their gripe?!?! :dubious:
Maybe because they don’t like being blindsided?
General Myers, chairman of the joint chiefs had the news story delayed for two weeks. Why didn’t he bother telling anyone about it? It’s not as if it would just go away. With a little advance warning someone might have been able to figure out how to handle the blowback more effectively than it has been.
This is going to end up in GD, but in the meantime can you provide a link to back up your assertions about the Democrats and Biden specifically? Googling doesn’t turn up anything post-interview.
Senators Biden (D) and McCain (R) were interviewed this morning on the NBC Today program. Biden also called for Rumsfeld’s resignation if he had advanced knowledge but chose not to share it with Congress.
In getting back to the OP’s comment, the Democratic anger may be coming from a view that everyone, including the President, was blindsided by the 60 Minutes II story. Yet Rumsfeld stated bluntly today he had knowledge of the (alleged) abuses going back to early January and such information was made public at that time.
