So, as you can tell, I’m new here. But I have grown to love you all…well, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the drift. So, Hi!
But that’s not the point of this thread. I’m a lefty. I really feel that I think differently than someone who is right-handed…now, I KNOW that is as about a vague statement as you can get, but it’s TRUE. TRUE I TELL YOU!
ahem. I think growing up in a right-handed world has contributed to this, but certainly not all. I was wondering if any of you teeming millions had any thoughts on this. I put this here because I can’t see how this is a great debate. I love all the people.
(except maybe for that guy that keeps following me around)
Thanks for your time,
blast
you beat me to this post. i was gonna say something pretty damned soon.
well, everyone knows about the left hand-right brain thing, and people with dominant right brains tend to be more creative and scatterbrained than their more logical left-brained counterparts. i’m not sure that this is exactly the case for me, though. i tend to be a lot more logical than a lot of my friends.
one edge that i think being left-side dominant gives me is when it comes to riding my bike in traffic. i can see so much more out of my left eye, which is very useful when riding on the right side of the road. of course, i’d be totally screwed in England.
Same with me. I seem to be much more “logical” and “centered” than my right handed friends. But, they can read the logo’s on their coffee cups while drinking, so it all works out in the end.
zyzzva - damn you for beating me to the “kill righty” joke! (BTW, isn’t zyzzva a code for some video game? It sounds vaguely familiar.)
I like to consider myself more logical than my right-handed friends, but I think the only real statement I can make is that I am much more eccentric than my right-handed friends. Having very few friends, this sample-size is quite limited.
I think a lot of the differences between lefties and righties are socially constructed (in the sense that once one knows they are different, they are more likely to act different).
I tried to buy a left-handed shovel, but the hardware store wanted to charge me double for it. The right handed one has the blade on the wrong end. Damn!
(Maybe I should take back that comment about me being more logical than my right handed friends.)
The question still remains, though, Ender, why do you think right-handed?
