Why are the media ignoring the protest against the ground zero mosque?

Oddly, I only see the main stream media, and I heard about this. Perhaps you won’t know what the main stream media is reporting on if you only see the non-main stream media. And that may explain why I didn’t see any coverage of this in the non-main stream media. Hey, why didn’t the non-main stream media cover this? It must be because they are anti-religious and would prefer a building dedicated to atheism on that site. There couldn’t be any other explanation.

Out of curiosity, how’s those Glenn Beck motivational tapes I sent you commin’ along? :stuck_out_tongue:

What does this rant have to do with the subject of this thread? You know, the subject you selected when you opened it.

It’s Manhattan. A guy having his heart burst out of his chest and dance a merengue wouldn’t draw a crowd, just a huddle of small-time show-biz agents.

Well, I should mention that the talk radio blowhards have been trying to whip up hysteria over this for weeks, if not months. I hear about it nearly every day on the local outlet for right-wing blarney.

Of course! The guy just lost his heart. The agents are celebrating the birth of one of their own.

It’s the freaking FUNDIE wing of Islam that is scaring you. FUNDIE. ANY fundie wing of any regligion is scary. Look at Christian Identiy or some of the fundies who go to Bob Jones University.

Why would people that think 9/11 was an inside job care if a mosque was built near ground zero?

We already know muslims had nothing to do with it, other than to be the patsy.

 Somehow, I doubt that there’s any name that the Cordoba Initiative people could have chosen that you wouldn’t perceive as part of a sinister jihadi conspiracy.

No, I hadn’t noticed it. From my readings, I do remember that Cordoba had a few good centuries as a place where Christian, Jewish & Muslim cultures thrived. Look, there’s a website!

A few too many buzz words for me, but these folks hardly sound like dangerous radicals. Your views are well known here. But you’ll be safe up there in Canada!

Um. . . . . yes. The Christians and Jews “thrived” under Muslim conquest and domination, paying the special tax charged to Dhimmis. After decades of struggle Christian Spain got out from under Muslim domination. No pleasing some people!

But the Left does not tell me that Bob Jones University or Christian Fundies cannot be held to the same western standard of toleranmce, now do they?

If you will read back, it was assumed that I am a right-winger. Anyone who expresses alarm about the spread of this anti-democratic, intolerant and brutal ideology of world conquest that is Islam is automatically hammered with the title of “racist” (even though Islam is not a race) and “right-winger” or “fascist”, even though the fascistic behaviour is clearly a Muslim trait.

No, it was the capital of a major Caliphate when the Muslims were rulers of Spain, before it collapsed into regional kingdoms. Eventually these kingdoms were taken over by Visigothic successor kingdoms.

Who called anyone a racist or a fascist here?

Doing a quick text search in the thread, Valteron is the only one throwing around the term “racist.” I am sad for him that nobody is taking him up on his little straw man. Poor Valteron.

Do they hand out toasters the way you folks do?

And promptly expelled/murdered/forced conversion on all the Muslims and Jews. Nice Christian values…

Actually, the Cordoba Caliphate was the peak of Muslim civilization in Spain, with knowledge exchanged among its various communities while The Dark Ages covered most of Europe. It fell apart in civil war & less enlightened Muslim rulers followed. So “Cordoba” really does mean a period of tolerance–not just Muslim domination. After the Reconquista, Spain kicked out its Muslims & Jews or made them convert. Conversos suspected of backsliding faced the Inquisition. Armed with the Cross, Spain went on to conquer a New World. I don’t swallow The Black Legend that preaches how the Protestant conquerors were less cruel; they preferred to kill the indigenes or exile them & take their land, rather than try to convert them. But does Volteron truly approve of the Conquistadors?

(That “Um. . . . . yes” is just so 12 year old girl.)

I don’t see anybody here telling you that Islamic fundamentalists shouldn’t be held to the same standard of tolerance that we expect from everybody in a free democratic society.

Ironically, this same Cordoba Initiative that you’re all upset about because of their plans for building an institute in Manhattan seems to be trying to promote exactly the same mission of tolerance and interfaith respect in and for Islam that you’re complaining Islam doesn’t have enough of.
