Why are the same drugs cheaper in Canada?

It seems like they are made in the USA, by the same USA drug companies that make our drugs. So- why so much cheaper? 50% or even more on occasion.

Now sure, we’d expect a small price discount due to the stronger US dollar. But not that much.

Please keep responses along the lines of GQ guidelines!

The Canadian government regulates the prices.

Yup. missbunny hit it spot on.

If you know how to do it, the Canadian companies will sell to you (in the US) at Canadian prices.

This usually involves sending a fax with your prescriptions and a special order form - and they don’t usually like to deal with individuals.

I know that in Florida there are American companies who will take care of the paper work for you for a small fee. Older people on lots of maintenance medicines can benifit tremendously from this. Since you can save up to 50%, the shipping costs are easy to cover - and since these are things the folks take everyday and will continue taking until they die, they can order a six month supply (which is the max the comapnies will ship) for the same shipping costs as for a one month supply.

It pisses off the local pharmacies, but it saves folks a lot of money. The pharmacies like to claim that the American companies who do this are breaking the law - selling medicines without a license - but what they are doing is completely legal. The American companies are not selling medicines, the Canadians are. The American companies simply knock out the paperwork that lets the American customers order direct from the Canadian pharmacies.

I know about this because my folks run such a service in Bolivar, Missouri. The started their own company providing this service after seeing a news report about a guy in Florida doing it.
