Computer shooting games that is… even the first nintendo had a gun. Why don’t computers?

- There are “gun” game-controllers available for PC’s. A few months back, PCGamer magazine reviewed two different brands, so I know that there’s at least two left. The problem is that nowadays there’s not very many games at all [anywhere] that use them. Catch-22: they’re not popular, so there’s no games for them (though each did come with a couple games included). - MC

Gun games are very popular in arcades. Along with Mortal Combat-style fighting games and Gauntlet: Legends, they form the backbone of arcades these days. I think this is because gun games just don’t translate well to home systems. I don’t know why, but IMHO they just don’t.
Whammo, you ever hold a game gun? After about ten minutes your hand is sore.
If my computer had come with a gun, I would have shot it long, long ago.

I’d say that one of the reasons game consoles are more likely to have a gaming gun than computers are for one simple reason:
Televisions are designed to be used from several feet away, making use of a gun easier and more practical. Computers are designed for up-close use.

You’d need a bigass monitor to make a computer gun worthwhile. Do you need a monitor , or would they work with a projector?
They’d work with any visual display system. Here’s how:
When you pull the trigger, the whole screen goes white for a fraction of a second except for small squares on possible targets. The gun detects color, and it sends the color it sees to the computer system. If the color is nonwhite, you ‘hit’ something. Hey, it worked for Nintendo damn near 20 years ago, it’s good enough for you! 
On a semi-related note, I noticed today that the Playstation has an alternate controller for some bass fishing game - it’s shaped like a rod and reel and presumably vibrates when you get a bite.
I bet that will increase sales to females.
Cecil might have to add the playstatin fishing reel to devices needing surgical removal from the butt, so not just chics.
