Did you use the boards with a Guest membership for a while and then join, or did you join the first time you visited the board?
If you were using the board for a while and then became a member, was your experience that the board was fast when you were a guest, and then became slow after you joined as a member?
This board has always suffered from performance problems at times of high usage, or when many people perform searches. It is unfortunate but has been the same for years, with some occasional intervals of better performance.
I think that most people that pay $15 for the SDMB are not being induced to part with their money because they expect fast responses from the board software. If that was one of you main expectations when joining, you may very well be disappointed.
I have learned that when the board is very slow, to wait a few minutes and try my action again, and when typing in a very long post, to enter it in a text editor and copy and paste to the webpage, so that my post can be easily re-created if I can’t wait. Also, 10-minute waits are pretty rare in my experience, but I don’t use the board during US business hours that often.
i became a guest member for about one year ago, i got full membership today
i had no problem with my test-post today, but my second and third was very slow
i have a broadband that is a bit faster than the basic package and a new laptop which i bought som 10-11 months ago (packard bell)
I have never experienced a message board that was this slow (i hope this is just some periode of the day). I have visited many message board - with similar modus - with my old dial-up modem connection - but that was faster than this
Packard Bell still makes laptops? Wow.
Anyhow, the boards are generally slow during the U.S. workday, especially the period right around lunchtime (noon Central time). Late nights and early mornings (U.S. Central time) are usually much better.
Don’t worry, the load on the server will drop in a day or two.
works fine today
