There’s no particular rule on the number of posts. The GQ rule reads:
We tolerate some joking, but that is generally acceptable only after the question has been answered. Please do not race to a thread to post that hilarious one-liner in response to the thread title, and don’t drive by just to drop in an anecdote that doesn’t answer the question. If you want to be funny while contributing to the thread, go for it. We tolerate some discussion of tangentially related factual information.
If you’re joking, and it’s not absolutely clear, it’s best to add a smiley or some other indication. Posters make ridiculous remarks, apparently in all seriousness, all the time. Don’t assume your remark will be understood as a joke. Don’t post misinformation in an attempt to deceive a naive questioner.

I might just as well ask why you were snarky about the fact that the post was not moderated as quickly as you would like. In addition, you acted like you wanted a reward for making an off-topic post in GQ. That’s what annoyed me more than the post itself.
Look, Leo , a lot of your posts are OK, but very often they don’t contribute much, or even constitute hijacks. It’s fine if you want to just shoot the shit about a subject, but we have other forums for that. You don’t need to do it in GQ.
As I’ve told you before I (and other mods) would appreciate it if you would put a little more thought into your posts. Sometimes you just post without thinking. This can cause problems.
He was very obviously making a joke, and didn’t actually expect any sort of reward. It’s not an uncommon style of joke. I know I’ve seen that joke made many times in ATMB, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone take it seriously.
Hence why he thinks you have a personal problem with him, and is upset.

I sometimes search on Google and can’t find the answer I’m looking for and someone here will tell me they searched, using some search term I hadn’t thought of, and low and behold the answer is right there.
So it’s a learning experience for me even though I have been searching for answers online for ages. I usually try and find the answer myself first since I pride myself on being able to find information for others. There have been scores of GQ questions I haven’t had to ask because I was able to find the answer myself.
It’s “lo”; lo and behold .

Timely reply as usual, BigT.
Ever since Prodigy I have enertained thoughts like abetted by technology, we tolerate and even encourage the “microcomplaint”: the petty, petulant kvetch about the quotidian. . Suggest we all read it and then bitch and complain about the shortcomings in the post.
Nice phrase. (It’s from Teddy Wayne at the Times, but you get props for selecting it.)
