Yeah, I don’t call myself a Democrat (by the standards of Democrats on SDMB I’m way, way too far left on most issues) but I have voted nearly straight party Democrat for this entire millennium, and own close to two dozen guns. While the ‘gun nut’ crowd is really big into telling everyone how the GOP is a big friend of gun owners, that doesn’t seem to be borne out by the facts. The GOP likes to talk about being pro-gun, but fail to take any action even with control of the government and a willingness to act unilaterally on issues they do care about, while the Democrats like to talk about gun control but don’t actually implement any and occasionally help roll back anti-gun changes put in place by Republicans.
If you look at federal gun legislation and executive orders you’ll see that Republicans are the ones who issued the two major anti-gun executive orders, the only big anti-gun legislation to pass since 1990 (Brady Bill and Assault Weapons ban) were endorsed by all Republican presidents except Trump, and the only pro-gun legislation for regular individuals in that time frame was passed by a Democratic congress under Obama.
